    Easy smoked baked beans

    I picked this bean recipe up on the internet somewhere its pretty good. I usually smoke them for about 3 hours instead of the 4-5 that it says to do just depends how much smoke you want to taste

    4—27 oz. cans of baked beans

    ½ lb. of bacon—chopped and sautéed
    ¾ cup of brown sugar
    ½ red onion—chopped and sautéed
    1 tbsp of dry mustard (approx.)
    Enough molasses to drizzle over the top


    These ingredients are poured into a large disposable foil pan, molasses drizzled over the top, and the remaining ½ lb. of bacon strips are cut in half and placed on top.

    Set up the grill for indirect cooking (and a temp of around 250) and add some hickory chunks or chips and smoke ‘em for 4-5 hours rotating the pan hourly. Add briquettes and wood every 45-60 minutes as needed.

    I agree. Recipe sounds great but some meat drippings would kick it up a notch. Thanks.

      Thank you for sharing! Everyone needs a good recipe for customizing store bought baked beans. My wife does it all the time....

        One thing I have learned is to stir the beans! I tried many times to heat up the store bought beans in the smoker. Never noticed even a little smoke flavor? I mentioned that in a post on another forum and one guy asked me how often did I stir the beans? I answered I didn't I was just heating them up.(yep I'm lazy like that lol) He said oh no you have to stir the beans to the get the flavor down into the beans!! So I did and I'll be danged if he wasn't right!

          Was looking for an easy no frills beans recipe. Was just going to wing it and throw something together similar to this but I will give this one a try first. I especially like the molasses, gives it a little extra something. GadjetGriller good advice on stirring, never tried that before.
