This mildly sweet, mildly spicy mustard sauce recipe originally came from grandma Daye from North Carolina.
I've modified it a bit over the years to.make it uniquely my own.
It is my most requested sauce for pulled pork but goes equally well with grilled chicken on dogs and brats...actually it goes with just about anything...makes a great slaw dressing too.
3/4 cup yellow mustard
1/2 cup ACV
1/4 cup packed lite brown or raw sugar
1 TBSP molasses
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/2 tsp white pepper
1 TBSP yellow mustard powder (I use fresh ground)
1/2 tsp hot sauce (personal preference; I use Texas Pete's
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 TBSP unsalted butter
1 tsp liquid smoke
1/4 cup fine minced onion
1 TBSP fine minced garlic
1 TBSP neutral flavored cooking oil
In a sauce pan add the onion, garlic and cooking oil and saute until sofy and translucent.
I like to mash/smash the cooked garlic and onion into a paste like consistency with a wooden spoon.
Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for about 15 minutes.
Hope you enjoy this as much as we do...
If you try it let me know what you think
