    Big Bob Gibson Red Sauce

When I’m driving across the United States of America especially during the nights out in the open country I will began thinking about what I want to cook and which cooker I’ll want to cook it on. I have decided to do a couple of pork butts and some BB ribs.

Most of the time I will make the bbq sauce but this time I want to try something different. So after about three days of searching the internet I came upon Big Bob Gibson’s website.

There they had bbq sauce and rubs for sale so I decided to try their bbq sauce but I couldn’t make my mind up on which sauce to buy between the three.

    BBG bbq red sauce
    BBG habanero red sauce
    BBG backyard mustard sauce

So I just ordered all three and a bottle of his rub.

I was just wondering if any of you have try any of them and what your reviews are on them.

I have not tried them, but I look forward to hearing what you think.

Never tried Big Bob's stuff but the best red sauce I have ever had is from Blues Hog. I buy it by the half gallon along with their sauce. I will be interested to hear your review of Big Bob's red sauce.

I’ll vouch for Blues Hog, good stuff. No idea on Gibson’s

Blues Hog Tennessee Red Sauce is made for pulled pork sammies. A couple table spoons in your pit beans goes well too!

No wonder you have so many cookers. So many nights on the road, after night 15, "Crap!!! I'm out of cookers, 'hello, Rec-Tec......'"

Well, I live about 30 miles from Decatur and Big Bob Gibson’s and have been there a couple of times. They are mostly known for being the origin of the Alabama White BBQ sauce. You see it for sale in all the local grocery stores. Never have seen any red sauce for sale though, although I probably had it at the restaurant. I’ll look for it and give it a try though.

I’m going to try that on a rack of ribs.

I've bought the mustard sauce and didn't care for it much. However, I made the Carolina mustard sauce recipe in his BBQ book and it's a real winner, everyone I serve it to wants the recipe.

            3/4 c Prepared yellow mustard
            1/2 c Honey
            1/4 c Apple cider vinegar
            2 Tbs Ketchup
            1 Tbs Brown sugar
            2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
            1 tsp Hot sauce

I thought their red sauce was just so-so. I haven't tried the habanero one.

I really like Blues Hog Tennessee Red and I've come pretty close to re-engineering it.

            1-1/2 c Apple cider vinegar
            1/3 c Brown sugar
            1/3 ketchup
            1/2 tsp hot sauce
            1/2 tsp Kosher salt
            1/2 tsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Coarsely ground black pepper
            1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
            1/2 tsp Red pepper flakes

Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan and simmer for about 1/2 hour until it thickens. Makes about 1-1/2 cups when reduced.

I haven’t tried his sauces however I have made his injection, rub, and mop for a Pork butt from the book and really like it. It would be interesting to do a side by side between his packaged stuff and the recipes in his book.

            anxious to hear your review.

I might do a side by side since I will be doing two pork butts and three racks of ribs. I have his book on Kindle.

DWCowles , personally I make a double batch of the rub when I do it because I don’t think a single batch is enough. I end up with a little left over I will through on a Pork tenderloin or some chops later on.

You all have convinced me to get Blue Hog’s red sauce. So I ordered a mason jar of it.

Not much of a saucer here, but can't get enough of Blues Hog Tennessee Red!
              Good $#¡+³, Maynard!
Be safe out there on th Road, y'all....

I've tried all 3. The habanero red was good enough that I ordered a gallon. Blues Hog Tennessee Red is the only other sauce I've ordered online that's a family favorite.

I tried a bottle of it and it was OK. I like the Kosmo's competition BBQ sauce.. It is really good. Can be purchased from Amazon

I like the dry rub. I usually make my own as many others do, but I got a bottle from fuzzydaddy a month or so ago. I used it on a pork butt and it was great! I too am going to now purchase a bottle of the blues hog bbq sauce

wrgilb Like you, I make my own sauces. The recipes you posted are very close to what I do. I am so happy with total control of my ingredients, i.e. taste.

Love Big Bob's Red Sauce! That's what we are using, along with Blues Hog Tennessee Red, on our Pulled Pork. I'll make a sauce later, but for now, I've got 40 gallons of Big Bob in the warehouse!

Ok now you got me convinced to go buy some of this, since Big Bob's is only 30 miles away! Maybe they have the red sauce in the stores, but pretty sure I've only seen the white sauce for sale.
