I've been looking for years for a good Central AL style red BBQ sauce recipe, something like Golden Rule's sauce. (I know you can just get that on Amazon now, but I'd like a recipe I can mess with and make my own.) All the red sauce recipes I've found seem to tend a little sweeter / brown-sugar-y and lean a little KC-wards...I've even tried using AI to generate a recipe, with predictable results. Does anybody have a bright, tangy red sauce recipe they could share or point me to?

Ooh, I remember that recipe...I found it early on, but passed on it for some silly reason...I think at the time I was wanting something ketchup based rather than tomato sauce based, or maybe I was worried that there was too much brown sugar. I'll definitely have to try that...I think I dismissed it too quickly before.

Closest I can come up with right now is Lexington Red Sauce from Western North Carolina. Very good and that is saying a lot since I grew up in Eastern NC and my favorite is Eastern NC Vinegar Sauce.
Another you might really like is Blues Hog Tennessee Red. It is the only BBQ sauce I actually buy if I’m not making my own.
