Is it a sweet BBQ sauce (thinking to myself?)
I don't think of vanilla mixing with savory; however, I had to rethink cinnamon because I always used it in desserts, now, I use it on my braised chuck roast.

aside from being a flavor in itself, vanilla, like salt, is a flavor enhancer. that is why you always see vanilla in Chocolate bars and pretty much every dessert recipe ever. There is no reason why it would not enhance you sauce as well. and it would play very nicely with pork in any case.

Myron is from Georgia which is also home to Coca-Cola products. I suspect vanilla in the BBQ sauce is regional nod to Coke and its flavor. Myron is a big fan of chicken marinated with Coke. I think Coke has a hint of vanilla? I don't know if anyone else thinks that...
