Oh no, BBQ sauces are full of sugar & salt, who knew????
They neglected to state that this is what makes them so bloody tasty 😋

Don’t know about you guys, but I can’t really remember the last time I filled up a beer glass with BBQ sauce and drank it.

To negate the ill effects of BBQ sauce, I normally use it sparingly with my smoked tofu and kale.

I go the other way. I use smoked tofu and kale sparingly with my barbecue sauce.

As healthy as I am told it is, the only way I can get smoked tofu and kale down is with a good bourbon, scotch, or blended whisky.

I push the tofu and kale aside and drink whatever I can find to help me forget what it looks like. If it's a good libation more the better. If it's mediocre - it's still good.
I've heard all the warnings about bbq sauce. That's why I only use a dry rub. But it's got to have some salt in it. Body has to have some salt, no??

With my wife's diet, she needs to stay away from the high fructose stuff, and the less gluten the better. But granulated and brown sugar seem to be OK, and honey doesn't seem to be a problem. I had a friend post something about how much sugar was in BBQ sauce on Facebook, and I responded that yeah, when I make my own sauce and rubs, sugar is pretty standard. Then she admitted that someone in her family who smoked meat also used a lot of sugar, and maybe it wasn't as horrendous as the article she had quoted made it out to be.

Then again, my position is that if you smoke meat right, sauce just gets in the way of tasting the meat. If you need to load it up with sauce, what are you trying to hide?

You got that right! If anything, a vinegar sauce to cut the richness of the fat and that’s it!

texastweeter I have survived cigars, whisky, hot rods, and two young wives. I’ve given up tobacco, only have whisky on special occasions, sold my last Corvette two years ago because I had to have help getting out of it, and have an older wife that I wouldn’t trade for any young one. Surviving BBQ sauce should be a walk in the park.

I had a young wife once. I was young once too. Then she got old, just like me. But she had a father who was a toolaholic, and lets me buy any tool I say I want/need. And she's let me buy most of the cookers I want. Why blow a good thing.

                1) At least they got the headline right. I hate it when it’s “Best/Worst” and then they rate them on sugar, salt, fat, etc.

                2) Nevertheless, it’s still someone else’s idea of healthiness. If you run marathons, how much bbq sauce does it take to make a meal unhealthy? If you are a type 1 diabetic with high blood pressure who doesn’t check blood sugar daily and is lax with taking meds, is there ANY bbq sauce that isn’t unhealthy?

                3) The author is probably getting paid flat rate vs per link-through (as stated in the disclaimer). As long as nobody clicks any of the links in the article then we didn’t contribute to this nonsense.
