I use an Android and Chrome with DuckDuckGo. I am unable to do searches on the website. I get the pop up to register for newsletter with no way to X out. When I do fillout the info and go back to the search...... as soon as i try to type in the search it jumps back to the homepage. Any chance there is a Mobile App coming?

Mobile App in the Future?

Several members have asked us why we don't have an app. The Pitmaster Club is fully compatible with all devices, mobile, tablet, and desktop, and it works pretty well on mobile. An app would simply be a program wrapped around vBulletin (vB), the software that manages the Pitmaster Club. It would slow the site down and be a

Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
I use my android phone 90% of the time and 10% is a chrome book. Other than my fat finger syndrome on both, I have no complaints.

I have not heard this complaint yet from the 2 million monthly visitors to the free website or the 15,000 members of The Pit. So I think it is your browser that is misbehaving. Usually a hard quit on the browser, or even a hard quit of the phone, or clearing the cac he cleans out the cobwebs and everything works fine.
We see NO need for an eexpensive app that must be expensively updated every year when the website works perfectly fine.

Oh please Meathead? And make it really bad? Then charge us more for our memberships?
Your website works too good. It is out of sync with the current trend of crappy stuff. That’s probably why Rob Whatever left. 🤣

The search engine you use has no effect on your access to the site or it's own search functions. I tested on my Android device (using Chrome) and I could close the newsletter popup. There is a big white square in the upper right with an X. If you are not seeing that, then it might be a browser caching issue. You browser may be showing the cached version (js, css, and/or html). It could have been the site caching as well. I have cleared that to be sure.Originally posted by Richie View PostI use an Android and Chrome with DuckDuckGo. Also, you should not see the popup at all. Be sure to login here (Pitmaster) on your Android/Chrome. That will set the proper cookie to block ads and popups.
Not sure why the search "jumps back to the homepage", the search functions have nothing set up to do anything like that. This may still be part of the cache issue. I have not been able to replicate that behavior while testing.
Mobile Apps: my 3 cents...
These are just tracking programs. They make it super easy to track everything you do on the app and you cannot hide your identity because it is tied to the devices ID and your phone number.
They are expensive to create and maintain.
The experience of using an app vs a website is subjective at best. There are some apps that are just wrappers for a web browser and you are just looking at a website and do not know it.

For the record, I do not want an app. Generally speaking they're an expensive way to re-package an existing website without adding anything whatsoever. I DO want a website that plays nice on mobile, but for the most part, amazingribs.com is a very frustrating experience on my iPhone.
I've been meaning to report this to the Bugs section for a while now. On iOS/Safari (my iPhone 12 Pro), the site often "locks" to its spot on a page and doesn't let me scroll. It's super annoying, and occasionally I can trick it into unlocking with some combination of zooming/unzooming/refreshing.
