Since the last update, I find myself getting notifications from threads I've never seen
Yup,
While I have found some threads this way that I am interested now it's a mixed bag.
When I click on Pitmaster I have had up to 20 notifications some days 10 or 12 I never subscribed to.
While not complaining I'm just putting it out there. Maybe a button that would open you up to this might be neat in order to expand interests??
Yep, you received notices for topics that you are not currently subscribed to. No posts or likes in the topics (which would auto subscribe you). I cannot find a cause for this. Did you unsubscribe/unfollow any of the ones you receive notices for?
To the best of my knowledge, I have not. Most of these I never even knew existed. Tried what you posted and at this last check in, there are even more notices than before with threads unheard of.
At least I feel really popular

I found there is a setting in membership to turn auto subscribe off which I must have done a long time ago and forgot. I know personally that being auto subscribed to threads where I liked one comment would drive me mad, and apparently it did sometime in the past.
All correct. There is a setting that when enable, automatically marks a topic as "subscribed" or "followed" when you reply, comment, or like anything in the topic. There is another setting to set when you receive the email or message "alerts" or notices.
on getting home this afternoon I logged on and had 4 notifications, all legit. I think we have it. And actually this was not a painful experience. I have subscribed to a few of the threads I never knew existed. Maybe a button to open up unsubscribed threads for a limited time in order to see what's out there? Coding wise with what little I understand, the parameter list probably would cause you to start bleeding from the eye sockets But I had to ask. Interesting experience. thanks for the fi
I'm not sure what that means, are you saying that I will get notification of every new topic or post even if I have never shown any interest in the thread?
I wrote down every topic I have never subscribed to with todays logon, maybe this will shed light?

That is a CHANNEL, within the channel are topics. Since you are following the channel, you get notified of every thing in the channel. There is a button up top that says FOLLOWED, click it. It will then say FOLLOW. That will stop notifications from the channel.

My son in law sent me a photo of a kamado, asking half joking and half serious if he should get it:
It’s a Parrilla Kamado Simple Cook Tokio. I looked it up. It’s fairly new, you can find videos on YouTube etc. There aren’t any reviews, but I’d guess it’s pretty much the same performance wise as any of the decent kamados.
Then I thought, maybe I am following this person? It is Mosca I’m sure there is some deeper connection.
Click the Followed button to unfollow/unsubscribe.
The button will then say: Follow. You can click any Follow button to follow (subscribe to) any topic (or the entire channel).
If following the entire channel, you will get notices for all new topics and any post. Even though you have not posted in the topics.
The reason you get notices for topics you have posted in, is due to the setting in your Notification Settings the Automatic Subscriptions ([x]Subscribe when posting) is enabled.
I find myself humbled.
Kudos to Ray for not telling me I'm stupid and dense, I'm aware Most electronics I deal with, e.g. Grocery store self checkouts, constantly tell me I'm Old, Slow, Fat and Stupid so thanks for holding back and letting me figure it out for myself
I get it now. If I follow a thread, I'm subscribed to the topic.
I'm willing to live with that because I have found a few threads that interest me and I probably will subscribe to.
I have just been a techie for so many years that I have, so far, been able to keep up.
Even something a simple as a forum like this, they never stop changing things. Changed "thread" to "topic", changed "forum" to "channel", changed "subscribe" to "follow" -- these changes did not seem necessary to me. But now that I am used to them, they are fine.
I like to help, and pointing out someones confusion is less than helpful. I prefer to be a guide to the solution.
Also remember you can follow one topic or an entire channel.
