Some fine words Meathead On an interesting note. The way you felt when you met Anthony is probably the same way us here in the pit would feel if we had the chance to meet you.

That was very well said Meathead . So many of us who have enjoyed his no holds bar, in your face writing as well as his warm and humble approach to the people he met in his travels, will miss his style and his adventures, they were truly unique. As I wrote in another post, Anthony certainly had his demons, he was very up front about that. What is so stunning and leaves so many of us in shock was his timing. All any of us can attribute it to is the ravages of the disease known as depression, how it masks itself and then somehow gets the better of its victims so silently and suddenly.

If ever I was asked the proverbial Greg Rempke question, who would you most like to hang out with in the bbq world, I would have to demur then choose Anthony Bourdain. Although not a part of the bbq culture per se, he understood that besides shelter, water and safety for our families, food is what binds the human spirit. That was his genius and something I could have spent hours talking to him about. Oh the stories he could have told.

Thanks again for your wise and intuitive commentary Meathead.

Spot on! Indeed, it was about "who was in the chairs" and the fact that, no matter our country or culture, we're all human beings. He did the world a great service.

I was not a fan of his style but I do recognize talent I think that his darkness shadow him. Pease be with his family as they go through this tough time

While he communicated with, and through food, he really reminded me of the musicians I hung out with. Blessed with an incredible storytelling talent and cursed by the dark side of it. In a way, I see him writing his own exit, but he really left too soon.

each one of us is unique. The lines in life are fine. We must be content with the fact that we will never know.

                        I appreciate the read MH.

Love it! So cool he had heard of you & your book. I think it's sad how many people we all hold in high regard and it's often only when these types of tragedies occur that such words get written or these thoughts come to us. Of course, that's the nature of a tribute, posthumous recognition & reflection. That's the sad part.

Friends, be sure to let that person you respect/love know how much they mean to you while they're still here. Like Garth Brooks says, "If tomorrow never comes."
