From what I can see the Weber smart ring does not come with a diffuser plate while the FireBoard includes one. Not enough info at this point to see if you can add a diffuser to the Weber.
I wonder if the ring that puts the air in the cooker is best located at the level of the cooking grate. I get that there were not many options to put the fan but will the fan blow ash on the food, affect grill level temps or require more blowing than a fan located at close to the fuel level? Just thinking about it. Will not judge until tried or comments from users come in.
Started smoking in Aug 2025. First smoker is a Weber Searwood. I purchased a ThermoWorks Smoke to get a more accurate temperature and the pro-series needle probe. I also have a Weber grilling basket, Weber grill brush, and the Grillart steambrush. I've tried all sorts of pellets and wood flavors and my family mainly likes the Traeger signature blend. I have a meat injector and shears for poultry.
I also recently purchased a new 2010 used Weber Kettle Performer. Just got a cover for it. I bought the ThermoWorks RFX with 1 wireless probe, the SnS and DnG to spruce up the grill. I have not cooked on it yet. I cut a hole and installed the ThermoWorks billows. I did buy 4 bags of the B&B charcoal briquettes.
All my cooking has been on the Searwood. I absolutely love cooking Pork Shoulder, chicken wings, chicken breasts and steak. I won first place in my church chili cookoff (I bragged to everyone about it) and I really enjoyed the chili (and I don't really like chili). I really enjoyed Moink balls. I like cooking ribs, chicken breasts, and chicken legs with white sauce.
I look forward to cooking pork burnt ends, smoked turkey for Thanksgiving, and maybe even a brisket.
I'm still trying to determine rubs my wife will really enjoy. I love the rubs from the website, but my wife just wants some rubs that will bring out the meat flavor so she can taste the meat. I'm seeking simple rubs for chicken breasts and steaks.
I love soda and especially Dr. Pepper. I don't drink alcohol.
I live near Boise, ID. I've been married for 25 years and I have 5 kids. I'm a second career dentist.
Oh crud. My MCS brain is in overdrive mode. Like can the ring fit on the Weber Smokey Mountain 22”? Is there a heat diffuser so the entire surface of my performer would now be available (I’ve got a big family)? Or maybe I just get another used kettle on Facebook and pimp it out with the ring? Or maybe I just buy another performer because why not?
It is interesting how major brands like Weber follow the "smaller" entrepreneurs like Fireboard and Thermoworks that have been making aftermarket fans and wireless controllers for charcoal cookers for close to ten years. Corporate America doesn't want to risk putting out a new product until the utility of it is well established first. I understand that process as gearing up a new product on a large scale is a major investment. Weber is now owned by a public company and needs to bet only on sure things, if they can.
Max. Thanks for the correction. I see that they got taken private after a couple of years as a public company. I wonder if it better for us consumers that a private equity firm acquired them? I don't know the answer to that.
I like the smaller tabled performer. I can't get it until I finish this metal floor on my utility trailer and sell it to clear room under the car port. That'll be my incentive to finish the trailer.
