FireBoad Pulse Wireless Temperature Probe, by Bill McGrath

    LINK: https://amazingribs.com/ratings_revi...wed-and-rated/

The Pulse is FireBoard's entry into the wireless thermometer product category. It works in conjunction with either the FireBoard 2 or the Spark to display both the food and the “ambient” (cooker) temperature. You can also connect to the probe directly using a smartphone, but the range might be limited. The Pulse has two sensors: one in the tip and one in the handle. The tip probe is useable to 212°F (100°C) and the handle is able to withstand 662°F (350°C). The Pulse comes with a clever cradle that allows the stacking of up to eight probes/chargers, held together by magnets. Plugging a USB-C cable into any one of the stacked units will charge them all.

Fireboard does have a predictive finish time though, Fireboard Analyze.

Otherwise I hate this review because it's about to burn a hole in my wallet

Oh man, I’m glad it’s a positive review, because I had just pre-ordered a probe hours before this dropped!

Something like this, integrated into a Drive controller, opens up a huge realm of possibilities.

For one example: this Christmas I can do a rib roast outdoors on my BGE, using the Fireboard Drive and a wired food probe… and a turkey indoors, in the oven, using the Pulse, and monitor both at the same time using the Fireboard app.

Another: brisket on the BGE, using the Egg’s natural ability to hold rock solid temps, but the Fireboard Pulse to monitor the food temp… while using the Drive and a fan to do a pork butt on the Weber Kettle.

Another: remember, this is a stand-alone probe. You don’t need a controller, or a base station, it connects directly to your phone! As long as you’re staying nearby, all you need is the Pulse and the app. (That’s how my Temp Spike works, and works well.) So, you can start slow. Get a Pulse, and stick it in that chicken on the rotisserie in the gas grill, and stay on the patio with it nearby.

I can probably come up with a half dozen more configurations. Remove the wires and functionality expands dramatically.

Also, as a long time Thermoworks user, I’m really impressed with Fireboard in every way. I have no doubt they set a goal to meet or exceed the marketplace standard in physical performance, appearance, quality and reliability, while getting ahead of the curve on software, flexibility and adaptability, and interactivity, and communication among devices. If you haven’t held one in your hands, you will be impressed when you do, especially if you’re used to Mavericks, Smoke Alarms, etc. “Built like a tank” in the best sense.

Edited to add: Between now and 12/01/2024, orders of $79 or more include 3 probe pouches and 2 competition probes, a 1” and a 3”. That’s $61 if ordered separately. As someone who hates winding and twist-tying probes, those pouches will really come in handy.

I've been using the Fireboard 2 Drive for a while now and just ordered 2 Pulse thermometers. I'll love it. My only preference is I did not like the fan they sell and ended up buying a Pitviper. I found the seal at my BGE intake to be better and It's been great. Their customer service is excellent. I am actually narrowing down my pellet grill options to try to keep in their app. So far I like the Pulse except it's not useful for some smaller cuts of meat, which if fine.

Love the Analyze Function. I heavily lean on the compare to previous cook option and it's on point!

Ok, so question... the Pulse can withstand up to 662ºF for searing... but can it be submerged in oil? While in a hunk of meat, of course... but I think the RFX and Combustion can both be dunked in a fryer, I'm hoping the Pulse can, as well, though I don't see it in the FAQ. It does say not to put it in the dishwasher, but I would imaging that's more due to high pressure spraying water than the temps or anything.

peskelton can you tell us if the Pulse is submersible in hot oil say at 350-425ºF? I'm really hoping it is, mainly for frying turkeys, but if not, are my plain Fireboard probes ok with this, or should I just be careful to keep the joint of the solid and flexible portion of the probe out of the hot oil?

Also, that 662* is for the silver colored probes. The blue and other colored probes are limited to somewhere in the mid-500’s. I forget the specific limit.
