Sneak Peek: The Meater 2 Plus

Enjoy a Pitmaster Club exclusive sneak peek of our latest review of the Meater 2 Plus wireless food thermometer!

The Meater 2 Plus is the latest wireless food thermometer from Apption Labs. It features five separate temperature sensors along the probe's length to mitigate errors caused by less-than-perfect placement in the food. There is another sensor in the handle of the probe that measures the ambient temperature in the cooker. The probe communicates with the charger/range booster which, in turn, communicates with your phone.

A probe like this would fit my needs well because I do a fair amount of rotisserie cooking. Looking forward to the comments!

That is a perfect use! I should do the same.

Looks pretty competitive to Combustion Inc’s offerings. CI is .19” in diameter while this is .20”. CI has 7 sensors plus 1 ambient, while this has 5 + 1. CI’s max external is well below this offering. The Meater’s block is its Bluetooth connector to its phone app, while CI’s probe, plus probe sleeve plus Display all act in concert to provide BT connectivity, so I think CI’s range is greater. The stainless Meater probe means better tolerance for using it over direct heat at higher temps.

I cannot compare Apps as I do not have a Meater. Just adding some info to the MCS matrix!

      Is this the one?
The Combustion Predictive thermometer is a truly wireless probe that uses a unique sensor array to measure and predict cooking times.

I'll see if our thermometer guru, Bill McGrath, can chime in on the comparison of the two since he has done extensive testing on both. He did award them both Gold Medals, though, so I don't think you can wrong with either one.

Clint Cantwell Yes, that's the one. There is a newer version of the charging sleeve for the CI probes that is called the Booster as it now has increased range and helps create what CI calls their "MeatNet" sort of a Bluetooth mesh network.

"Each of the six probes is individually calibrated if needed. A calibration sheet is included with the product."

This is confusingly worded. There are 6 sensors on one single probe, yes?

From what I read, yes, it is 5 food temp sensors and 1 ambient.

I ordered one on 11/26. No sign of it. I love my Meater+, so I cannot wait to receive the new one.

I have a Meater+ , signal drops all of the time....my smoker is 1/4 inch -but it has not worked well and I am less than impressed.

I picked up the 2 probe TempSpike Twin from Thrmopro and it worked like a champ......signal is strong and steady!

Just received an email from Meater that my order for the Meater 2+ was refunded with no explanation as to why.

I mean, Meater is owned by Traeger which has some very questionable things (see WiFi patent suit against GMG I think) in the past.
