Combustion Inc. Predictive Wireless Thermometer,by Bill McGrath
The Combustion Predictive thermometer is a truly wireless probe that uses a unique sensor array to measure and predict cooking times. Check out our review at the link above.
Tappecue AirProbe 3 Wireless Thermometer,by Bill McGrath
The Tappecue AirProbe 3 is an evolutionary wireless temperature probe that incorporates two sensors per probe and connects via a Bluetooth signal to your smart devices. Check out our review at he link above.
I've had my Combustion for around a month and I've done a few cooks with it. I agree with Bill's assessment of the predictive cooking. The initial prediction is always off by a considerable amount of time but the prediction becomes more accurate throughout the cook. I rely on it primarily for the food and ambient temperature readings. I like the size of the probe and wireless connectivity has been pretty stable so far.

My experience with my Combustion.inc has been a little less than stellar. I use a Samsung Galaxy S22+ Android phone. Right now, I have frequent CI app crashes. Apparently Samsung uses their own version of open source Bluetooth libraries, which according to CI is the root cause. They’re working on it. I have also “discovered” that it is best practice to twist the probe in its holder when charging to insure a good connection with the holder. CI’s firmware only detects if there is an electrical draw by the probe to determine if it is charging or fully charged. No flow = fully charged, so if there is debris or a poor connection physically between the probe and its holder, a green light is misleading.
I second the ask for a real manual. Fishing through the website’s FAQ to get key info is not the best IMHO. I do not reply on their predictive numbers at all, but really like the 8 temp point readout. Fascinating to learn that the coolest location is not necessarily at the tip of the probe. I assume that means all probes that only report tip temp can be a bit misleading about the true IT of whatever your cooking.
What I did before the Combustion arrived was to place a probe as close to the center as I could get. Then, after the internal temp of the meat started to rise, I would move the probe around looking for the lowest temp. That seemed to help.
The Combustion Inc probes are available either with a repeater/booster, or as an add-on if you get the non-repeater one and want it later. This takes the weak signal hampered by your smoker and boosts it onward.
Hi gang. I just purchased a new MasterBuilt Gravity Series 1050, and I'm retiring my Weber Performer Deluxe. I was cooking a small Brisket last Sunday, and my Maverick remote thermometers quit working (may need new probes)... so, I ordered the new Combustion Predicitive wireless thermometer. It is supposed to arrive today. I'm anxious to receive it and begin using it. I totally disliked the wired probes... they are a pain to keep track of, and not get "in a pinch".
Since my previous post about the CP wireless thermometer, I have used it several times. I 'like' it... it serves me well, and yes, I agree that it's early predictions of time are off considerably, as time gets closer, they become much more accurate. To me, that's not a big thing, but perhaps semi useful as time passes, but the accuracy of the heat is very good, and that's much more important than knowing how much longer it will take.... YES, I'm very happy with this product.
I was gifted the Meater+ for Christmas and it is useful, I like that it gives the ambient temp of the chamber...
Not 100% confident on the accuracy of temps - but it still helps....
