    FYR Grill

I've been seeing this come up regularly on my social media feeds. It's like they track the web browsing on my phone or something...

This would check a couple of different boxes for me. I'm looking for a more portable solution, while always wanting a Santa Maria style grill. My current setup also lacks a rotisserie. That said, I would be concerned that the balance between weight (for portability) and durability could prove challenging for this grill long term. I would be curious if anyone on here is familiar with the company and/or any of the people running it. My apologies if this grill has already been discussed - I searched for this company on the board, but only found a post regarding their sauces that they came out with first.

I've been burned by crowdfunding in the past, so I highly doubt I would commit anything at this point. However, if it does what it claims, my MCS might have a flare up later this year...

Does anyone make a Santa Maria attachment for any of your grills? I bought a SM attachment for my PK360. Works great and a lot less $$ than buying a dedicated SM grill.

There is not a Santa Maria attachment for my grill, but the coals can raise and lower - so I effectively have a reverse Santa Maria. The thing that was most intriguing to me about this is the portability factor. Some family members have a place a few hours from where I live, and it would be nice to have a charcoal/wood grill that I could take up north for a week when we go with them.

NumbWhistle Unfortunately, PK does not make the original anymore. Just the New Original. The old original, with a PKTX cart and a SM attachment would run you about $1000. Far less expensive than the $1800 for the FYR grill. Plus you could also smoke on the PK. Can't smoke on the FYR (no lid). Good luck in your search.

Every other ad on instagram for me is this grill.

Never really looked at it closely so didn't realize it was this much money or this much product. I thought it was similar to a Yak Grill in that it was primarily a yakitori kinda grill. As interesting as this product looks, can't say I'd really be likely to buy it at that price.

Getting a lot of traffic for that as well. Looks nice, but I haven’t looked at it in any depth.

Interesting that if you average the backer donations it's 1600ish per backer. I do like the idea of that cooker for sure.

I want to see some reviews first as I’d love an open fire/santa Maria grill.

I’ve seen this pop up on my kickstarter recs as well. And well… they got me. Haha, MCS strikes again. I’ll let y’all know how it is once it comes in. Maybe some of you review kings can give me some pointers on how to go about it. Expected shipping is January 2025. However, after backing a few campaigns I’ve learned there is often at least one delay. So might be more of a Q1 time frame

I did a set of Misen carbon steel 12&10 inch frypans. It took about 18 months to finally get product. easily a year after the expected fulfillment date. Pans are great, price reasonable, just never again. Pretty much wrote them off n much to my surprise they arrived. Little to no communication and many unanswered emails. Never again. Great concept, poor follow thru.

Yeah, the price is often very good, but quality and timing of delivery can be hit and miss. I do like supporting the smaller developers and projects tho. I’ve gotten a few great things from there, so sometimes it’s worth a roll of the dice.

I have their entire set of pots and pans. Stainless and nonstick. Love ‘em.

A friend of mine is involved with this company and grill. Looks like a pretty sweet set up but the price is a bit on the high side. I have little doubt it will be a quality made piece of equipment but for that price point it would be hard for me to pull the trigger

That’s good to hear! I think the cost is because it’s made entirely of stainless, 304 interior and 403 exterior. It is definitely not cheap.

Well the kickstarted funded of course, so the wait begins. I’ll update once it arrives with some unboxing pics and a short write up.

Any one of ya’ll look into one of these?
I have one and it’s great. I know the owner and have been helping him out a bit with different things. I can attest to the quality of this cooker.

Howdy! Alan Brice. The final prototype arrived back in December, but they ran into some issues with the door and fire grate warping under high heat. That forced a quick redesign. Fortunately, they said the new design worked perfectly. I think they had to sacrifice weight a slight bit and add a cast iron grate and solid fire door.

Final production models were ordered and scheduled to arrive in March, but then they got hit hard by the tariffs. It took them some time to figure out a solution, but in the end, they accepted the shipment without raising costs for any of the backers. That was a solid move on their part.

They received their first container last month and have already started shipping. The next container, which should include my grill, is expected to arrive the first week of July. I’ll post an update once I have it in hand.

As with most Kickstarters, there have been a few unexpected issues and most completely outside their control. But to be fair, they’ve maintained great communication and honored the original pledge for all the backers. I’ve been impressed with how they’ve handled everything so far.
