    Anyone Ever Tried This Stuff?

I was watching a cooking video and the guy pulled out some of this store bought bacon grease for use in his cook. I never even knew they had such a thing, never thought about it really. Anyone ever use this stuff or something similiar? If so how’d you like it? There’s been times I’d like to use some bacon grease but didn’t have any on hand…or feel like frying some bacon to get the grease.

I see this at Lowe’s near the grills. Keep intending to pick it up to give it a try. (Especially as I am out of tallow now.)

I have, and every big box store (including grocery stores) carries it. It tastes just like bacon grease since it is nothing but ultra filtered rendered bacon grease. It was just easier to take on a camping trip than my big Folgers' coffee can I keep in the fridge.

My mom always kept bacon grease, but have never heard of it being a store bought item.

Never heard of it either. I keep myself supplied with smoked bacon grease by smoking up batches with the A-frames...

I have seen it in stores for a long time...I recently bought some and have only used it to fry some eggs one time...seemed to do a pretty good job

I’ve seen it a bunch, but have not yet taken the plunge to try it. Though I have been meaning too……. Looking forward to hearing your results, but also trying for myself!!!

Never seen bacon grease packaged, but they sell fresh rendered lard at Mexican markets. I’ve bought that before. But grew up with bacon grease in the fridge and have always had it in my fridge for over 30 years.

Use it for frying obviously, but in such dishes as refried rice, eggs, fried chicken, gumbo roux, etc.

I prefer mine off the grill. Still has the tasty little bits in it with a smoky flavor, just like God intended.

Yep. I have had several containers of it. I love it! Although it’s not as much fun as eating bacon, it is good for a flavor boost.

I also like the fact you don’t have to strain your own bacon grease anymore before saving it.

We use it to cook eggs etc. but also add it to potato salad, also to sauté Brussel sprouts, Green beans, Caramelized onions, You name it.

More work, but I think filtering bacon drippings with a simple screen tastes better than the store bought.

I have now used 2 containers of Bacon Up. Am moving to lard, manteca, from local Mexican butcher shop. IMO, Bacon Up must have some water in it. It splatters; too much for me. And I think it substantially more expensive than local lard.

Bacon Up, about $10 for 14 oz. Local lard, $5.22 for about 28 oz.
