    Fresh Pressed Olive Oil

Today, received latest shipment. From Spain.

Cool. I love fresh pressed olive oil.

I found out awhile back that my city has the second largest olive processing plant outside of New York City (makes sense - we are a major port city). I drove by the building for years and didn't know what it was. They process and package several brands but, alas, no direct sales to the public.

So it sounds like they receive fresh olives and press them there?
From what I understand, the best olive oil is pressed within 24 hours of picking.
Maybe your plant receives tanks of oil and packages them for retail sale?

yakima They process whole olives: stuffed and in jars. I don't know much about it, I learned all of this a few years back when one of the employees was at my local brew pub and was telling us about it (the employee said it was the biggest processor outside of NYC so take that for what its worth). http://olivepackingcompany.com/products.html

I was expecting you to tell me you found some fresh pressed olive oil at the local thrift shop for 99 cents next to an autographed copy of the Blast of the Wok.

March 2025 Fresh Pressed Olive Oil shipment just arrived. Mild from Portugal. Medium and bold bottles from Spain. Great looking recipes in the enclosed booklet. I am figuratively swimming in oil and beans.

I do love olive oil but I just don’t know how to use a lot of it even for a family of 5. Are we just not using butter or dipping bread in olive oil on a daily basis? What is the use case for large quantities of olive oil?

I have not got the use case figured out. But "they" say to take a shot a day, for good health.

That is a fair use case. I have heard the same. You will be the first person I know to take daily shots. It is shame you can’t take pics as we could track how much younger you’d get over time.

I suspect that my Secret Santa gift this year will be oils and beans.

4th quarter shipment came in last week. Italian.
Plan to do the braised green bean recipe in the pamphlet tonite.

There is an olive oil company not far from me in Aguanga, CA called the Temecula Olive Oil Company. It has a store in Old Town Temecula.
I pre-ordered a bottle of their first batch, which sells out every year. I haven't opened it up yet.

        Fancy.

Carolyn, as you may know, TJ Robinson has some nice recipes at freshpressedoliveoil.com.

yakima I didn't know that, but I will check it out. Thanks

I made some fresh pressed olive oil one time, but I just picked up the olive and then wiped the floor. It was a little harder to get the stuff out of the grooves in the bottom of my shoe.

I just bought some Lebanese olive oil. I’d read it was right up there with Spain, Greece, Italy, etc.. It is very good, mild and buttery but not especially peppery. Among high quality oils, I’d call it “within the spectrum.” I made a salad dressing using it, with blood orange white balsamic, Dijon mustard, and herbes de provence.

I was recently gifted a few small bottles of fresh pressed, jet-flown olive oils, as opposed to slow freight-shipped varieties that cause them to lose some of their freshness and vibrant flavors (that's what the paperwork says), and wow are they great. Might sound weird but I could sip shots of a good olive oil.

Yes, pretty easy to become an olive oil snob, even with my unsophisticated palate.
I even have little Dixie cups for tastings!

I read on a olive oil maker's web site that they had taste testing on their tours, so sipping it isn't all that crazy sounding to me.

And here in wine country, tastings can run from dry to sweet to vinegar . But I have not found any balsamic.

I git my oil delivered by the Red Baron. He does a couple of passes over the house then lets it rip via a balloon. Ya would think it was WWI er somethin.

I love good olive oil. I just checked the club website but it is more than I can spend right now unfortunately.

More better oil is surfacing. Look into California Olive Oil company. I may not have the name quite right.

yakima - Maybe thinking of California Olive Ranch? They’re busy freaking out Italy and others by winning world competitions. REALLY good stuff and available at a reasonable price here in the States in most large supermarkets.

One great thing about Fresh Pressed Olive Oil club is that you can skip a shipment or two if you haven’t used what you already have. I’ve done this twice. No penalties at all. They just put you down for the next round.
