Mississippi State University has opened up sales for Winter again

Now that I got my order in for 6 Vallagrets I thought I should mention that MSU has opened up their website to taking orders that need to be shipped. They shut shipping down in the Summer. We love their cheeses, especially the Vallagret which isn’t available anywhere else that I know of. (Their shipping can get pricey)

Thanks, Don! I just placed my 2nd Annual Order!
The Edam "cannonball" and the Vallagret.
    $20 for shipping.
    Both cheeses are so delicious!

Last year I divided both large cheeses into chunks and froze them. We ate them through the Winter and Spring, finishing up the last piece in the early Summer. I parceled them out so we wouldn't make pigs of ourselves, which would have been easy to do.

A big thanks, too, to CandySueQ who introduced us Pit folks to that cheese sale last year. I ordered her recommended favorites and was glad I did.

Whatever those shipping costs are, Donw , I'm sure the cheese is well worth it.

Ok Kathryn.... you got me intrigued. I love cheese, but to justify to my better half why I spent $54 plus another $20 shipping... is this cheese magical or something? . I've been snacking on a block of Cabot extra sharp cheddar as I diet the past 2 weeks, and it was pretty cheap at Sam's...

I will probably pull the trigger on these 2 cheeses anyway. That one Edam is 3-4 pounds so at $27 isn't a bad buy...

Ok... I couldn't resist. Both cheeses are on order to ship November 4th...

One of my son-in-laws and all his family are MSU graduates, so they will be happy to hear I supported MSU in their cheese making ventures...

Half my wife's family went to MSU, the other half went to Ole Miss, makes for some great family reunions. My great uncle was an economic professor at Ole Miss during the late 60's. Hotty Toddy and Hail State!!

I've never known anything really about Mississippi State University, but I have to say, I am a fan these days. They are working with some friends of ours to bring across from Cuba a group of young adults to study music there, though working with the Cuban government and such is a mess, of course.

My friend Leo and his wife Yoyi have a wonderful family and their son Marlon is a world-class cellist (plays the cello) and they apparently are working to bring his string quartet over to study music there. I am excited for them, it is a great opportunity for them. And when I say world-class, this kid is phenomenal. Their whole string quartet is awesome, but I sure hope it works out.

So I was just adding my support for Mississippi State University!

Oh jeez. You people. I ordered the maroon box, it has 1.5 lbs of the Edam, 1 lb of the Vallagret, 1 lb of the cheddar and 6 oz of cheese spread. Shipping was only $15? Maybe because of the way it was packed. Or that it weighs less, idk. Whatever.

My bad on that comment about shipping. I bought enough for all my extended family for gifts and my shipping costs reflected the amount ordered.

MFS (multiple foods syndrome)! Just ordered the maroon pack. The earliest ship date for me is November 4th which is fine.

I like it that they wait until cooler weather to ship (they ship Nov-Apr). Last year, the cheese arrived in mid-November and was nearly at room temp. IIRC, there was only one or maybe two little gel packs in the box, well melted. I was concerned, so I called and spoke with the cheese supervisor at MSU, was reassured, and went on to enjoy the shipment. It was so enjoyed that I had to try to beat my husband to it some days.

I didn’t know they waited to ship, that’s good. Not only will I get to enjoy what I have, when this is just about done, that will “drop out of the sky”.

I ordered the $65.00 maroon box, $15.00 shipping; that is almost 4 lbs of cheese for $80.00 total. I don't see a shipping date.

Compare to my usual cheese source Washington State University Creamery: 3 - 30z containers at $33.00 each, shipping is $72.00 for a total of $171.00 for about a pound more of cheese. One 30oz container is $60.00 shipping. I passed, might try again in the winter to see if shipping is cheaper.

It will be in November most likely.

I have a nephew who graduated from MSU from their meteorology program. He's a broadcast meteorologist, I believe in the Athens Georgia market,

Got 5.65 pounds of cheese - one Villagret and one Edam - scheduled to ship on Nov 4th, thanks to Kathryn's endorsement. Thanks @fzxdoc!

I then told my son-in-law, an MSU grad about it, and he told me he could have picked it up for me this weekend, as he is heading out tonight to Mississippi State for the weekend, to go to a game with friends. He also gave a huge endorsement for the Edam cheese.

I guess I could have thought about about pickup versus shipping if I had realized the reason the daughter and 2 granddaughters are spending the weekend here is because he will be at MS State. Of course, he wasn't 100% sure the store that sells cheese and what he claims is amazing ice cream will be open on the weekend...

If they are like Texas A&M the store will be open on game weekends.

Get your SIL to pick up even more cheese for you this weekend, jfmorris . It's delicious and makes great gifts. I'm talking big there, since I have yet to give any away, greedy cheese hound that I am!

Sadly the web page told us that the cheese store on campus is just open from 9-4:30 Mon-Fri. 😔 Maybe it is open on game days but it didn’t say so. He was nominally there for an evening wedding but the game earlier in the day was a bonus. Well, it was for Florida anyway…

I got a notice today that my MSU cheese order's label had been prepared and was provided a UPS tracking number. I got nervous and emailed them that I didn't want the cheese shipped until the weather had cooled off, since they really don't make an effort to keep the cheese cold during shipment.

They wrote back and said they wouldn't ship until 11/4. She said they prepare the shipping labels with tracking labels as the orders are placed, but that the cheese is not picked up by UPS for scheduled deliveries until November 4 or thereafter, depending on the date of the order.

            Whew!

I got the same email, but think it did say it would not ship until the date I had selected. Glad to hear verbal confirmation of that though!

Yeah, jfmorris , I saw that too but have been the recipient of several shipping snafus over the years, especially with online food deliveries, so I wanted to verify that their shipping date was indeed my shipping date!

I got home from a work trip this evening and my cheese was on my porch. Per the delivery company - I think it was UPS - the cheese was delivered at around 7PM. They didn’t ring the bell, they just set it in a chair on the porch. My son was home at the time and would have answered the door. I got home about 8. The cheese was room temperature when I opened the box - still firm, no evident melting. No cold packs in the box at all. It was around 70 degrees outside. I plan on calling them tomorrow, but I wanted to check with you guys that have bought this before. What do you think?
