Why do people punish themselves with hot peppers? Is it actually enjoyable when it’s that hot?

Once you’re hooked, you’re hooked. It might interest you to know that we all have a limit. I’ve tasted hot salsas that had me saying no mas, and someone else is digging in for more. I started with Tabasco when I was a kid, moved on up as I got used to each level. There was a time I couldn’t take habaneros, now I chop them into salads. The hard stuff: reapers, scorpions, ghosts, nagas, etc, I need to have those diluted. They actually taste really good, though.Last edited by Mosca; January 22, 2022, 10:01 PM.

Mosca Yep, they do taste good. And some have interesting flavour profiles… I often refer to habaneros as "mangoes from hell" LOL because once the heat is cut down they taste surprisingly like a mango. Probably explains all of the mango habanero salsas out there. ;-)

I want in on this...;')
My taste says that when used that way, it is very peppery and very forward, with a bright fruity taste, but with no "sustain"; my mouth isn’t burning for 10 minutes afterward.
On crackers, it is pretty hot, but once I got used to it I can just cut off a slice and eat it. That way, just eating it as cheese, there is about 5-10 minutes of sustain.
I would definitely get this again, but I wouldn’t order it from Pennsylvania Macaroni; I’d wait until I was in Pittsburgh and buy it otc. Or, look it up locally, or find somewhere it would ship cheaper.
I do have a problem with cheese. I love it, but I buy far more of it than I actually eat. I’ll have 5 or 6 cheddars, an Emmentaler, some mimolette, provolone, and a couple-‘tree others. And I’m just not that hungry all the time. I love the cheese, but can only eat so much.
