This is the other recipe on that page. It’s a pretty straightforward baked-beans-from-scratch recipe. It’s a good place to start, I think.
1 lb dried navy beans
6 cups water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried mustard
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 lb cubed salt pork
Prepare beans. Drain [and reserve!] liquid. Mix in other ingredients and pour into a 2 qt casserole with tight lid. Cover with bean water. Bake covered at 300° 3 1/2 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally. Add boiling water as necessary.
