Bamboo steamer?

I did not have one but want one. Are they all the same or are there something I should look for in a steamer basket?

Maybe I'll pick one up at a local Asian store. I really want to make some bao buns.

FWIW I made bao but baked it, turned out awesome. Though there's tons of use for a proper steamer, I wish I had the kitchen storage honestly.

I think they are the same. It should have two baskets and a lid.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, mine were whatever was cheap and had good reviews on Amazon. All you're really looking for is something to keep your food out of the water. Plus mine came with some surprisingly good chopsticks, and parchment liners. I think I paid maybe $25ish for two baskets + lid. They're like woks, they're all probably made in the same couple of factories.

I tried making bao buns in a large pan with a vegetable steamer spread out at the bottom. The buns have a lot of oven spring and hit the glass lid. They turned out sunken and slippery, if I tried them again I'd make them smaller and leave plenty of room for them to rise. A proper bamboo steamer basket is a must.

I was considering trying that. Sounds like I just need a real bamboo steamer.
