Amazing find - RT-680 for free

So last Saturday, my wife told me someone in our neighborhood posted on Facebook they were giving away a pellet grill. They said it was in very good condition but needed a new controller. After messaging them, I found out it was a Rec Tec RT-680. Needless to say, I now own it. And the bad controller? Turned out to be the auger motor was the culprit. Added a flat washer to keep the rotor in place and voila, works like a charm. Made ribs and a small brisket on it Sunday and it held the temp perfect. I went ahead and ordered a new motor and drive because $50 is worth it, just incase. Now I just need to repaint the lid, the previous owner did some artwork on it I'd just assume get rid of. Congrats. At least you don't have to come up with a name.

Man - great score! Only grill luck I've had was paying $100 for my Performer Deluxe, which included a full set of Grillgrates and a cover. You scored MUCH MUCH bigger!

Good for you! I'd definitely get in the habit of covering the drip pan with foil. Makes for much easier clean up.

That beats the $20 Performer I got that had only been used three times. Congtats on the score!

Very good score, and RT still can supply almost any parts you might need beyond what you've already identified. Have you bought any lottery tickets while you're hot?

Thanks for the tip, Rod. I can fix an auger drive unit but never thought of covering the pan with foil...

I do not replace foil every cook, If I do 3-4 butts I do, also shop vac out all inside's after a full hopper of cooking pellets.
