Do all brands of pellet smokers have flame out problems?
Bought Camp Cheff SG in April. Had big temp swings and occasional flame out problems.Had bad RTD and also replaced controller. Been running good last couple weeks. One big mistake I made today was telling myself this thing is running great. Ten hours into smoking a butt and it flamed out. No wind or temp changes just burned out. I dont know how I would send this think back to manufacture without box.
What brand were you using? And what temp were you running?
I’ve read and heard from a few different folks that Alder based pellets seem to be a common denominator when it comes to flame outs. Traeger and PitBoss I believe both have Alder as a base.... I’ve not seen any scientific data but just a number of threads and comments from owners of pellet cookers in different sites.
Never a problem ever with a flame out on my Rec Tec 680. When I was breaking in/learning my Bullseye the pellet brand made a big difference. What pellets are you using? Tried a different pellet?
To be honest unless you got damp pellets somewhere in the system. It’s not the pellets. Alder or not. If you think it’s the pellets buy a few bags of BBQer’s Delight and see what happens.
that said I’ve never had a flame out that wasn’t related to anything else but a pellet jam or moisture.
I’ve read and heard that most flame outs are caused by running pelts below 2/3 in the hopper I have never had a flame out in my pit Boss but I have taken to heart the 2/3 rule on Long cooks hope this helps
Having flame out issues on my Traeger Silverton, I’m trying to understand why the 2/3 rule would help with that? So the hopper is only 1/4 full; if it has pellets to feed, why would it flame-out?
Sometimes the pellets "bridge" over the opening for the auger. This tends to happen more easily as the hopper gets lower. There is less pressure on the pellets.
I have not had a flame out in my Camp Chef LUX but from the facebook group, it seems to be caused by pellets (most evrryone in that group use Lumber Jack pellets) or the height of your chimney cap. Sorry, not much help.

never had a flameout in my Camp Chef SE. I would bet that the cause of the last one was that the pellets were bridging. I have used both B&B and Pit Boss Competition Blend with no problems. I have had it about 7 months and done over a dozen cooks.
Well I have an older Traeger Texas that has never had a flame out no matter what kind of pellets I use in it but I have a Grilla Silverback that I have had several flame outs with and it is usually because I let it go one cook too many before cleaning the burn pot. When it happens all I have to do is shut it down, take everything out of it and clean all the ash out of it and fire it back up and it will work like a champ. Knowing this about the Grilla I just make sure I clean the ash out of it after about 2 or 3 cooks to keep this from happening. I usually let my old Traeger go for 6 or 8 cooks before I clean out the ash and it has never let me down with a flame out and always holds the temp like it is supposed to, it must burn the pellets very efficient also because there is usually not very much ash it the burn pot when I clean it out.

I have a 2010 Memphis Pro--never had a flame out. I've used a few different brands of pellets and usually vacuum the fire pot between cooks especially after low and slow cook so that it lights better next time. Maybe cleaning the fire pot helps with that problem??
