I bought a Pellet this year and it has some capability that make life easier, especially on long cooks or when cooking a variety of stuff (i.e. Fish & Ribs & ??) but it is definitely not my go-to....
I do understand why some folks are drawn to Pellet Rigs- just not for me
We hate statements like "the fastest growing segment in the BBQ industry".
Of course it's going to be the fastest growing segment when you start with 0% sales and go anywhere up from there. Oooooh, going from 0% to 10% in sales is HUGE compared to other grilling methods where the sales % are likely stabilized.
I don't use my pellet rig as the sole cooker anywhere near as much as I did before getting the SnS kettle late last summer. Far more often, I use it in combination with the SnS, transferring cuts in there when the kettle gets to where it takes frequent vent tweakage to maintain temp and/or when foil-boating a stall. For a lot of cuts, it's for both. I can rest in the pellet smoker as well by just dialing it down to ~175F/80C, very handy. I've cooked using only the p-smoker just four times this year compared to ten times in combo mode.
Well, far be it from ME to be an enabler in any way. I won't even whisper about how it's so close by for such a great price and would be so very useful. Nope, won't say a word about that.
