Measure your current cookers and what would fit then double that so you have space for more and then add space for prep areas.

Rule 1: No matter what size you build to I guarantee it won't be big enough.
Rule 2: As soon as it's finished you'll find better accessories/features you'll wish you knew about sooner.

Roof is done on one side, just a little left on the other side. Then cleanup begins. Let the bbq begin.

It looks like any venting is just Mother Nature blowing through….. I’m just commenting because some gazebo-style things have vents. Heck, even some umbrellas and ez-ups do. But yours looks so tall, that “trapped” smoke won’t be an issue.

The vent in your location wouldn't be so much for the smoke to escape but the heat to keep it cooler so I think you could get away with a small overlapped topper with a vent just to let the extra hot air out. The smoke should go I would assume on anything more than 7-8' though maybe some staining at the peak?

SheilaAnn I've got a gazebo / pavilion with a peaked roof at both ends. And it has a ridge vent due to the cap that goes over the metal roofing. I've had a few times when the kamado or flat top was rolled up under there and smoke was coming out both ends at the peak, but it was always up high, above head level. You would have thought more would come out that gable vent than actually did. The biggest issue I had was if the ceiling fans were running. They would blow the smoke back down on me. In fact, the ceiling fan blades at the end I kept the grills in a few years back got kinda encrusted in extra grease and dust.... just a consideration. Trapped heat was not really an issue, as all sides were open above 8 feet... and the ends to the peak.

EDIT: Smoke staining the white underside of the metal roofing was something I thought might be a problem, but it never has been. That said, I kept the flat top and kamado under there from 2020 through 2023, and about that time, SWMBO wanted more seating that was under ceiling fans, so the grills got pushed out into the rain. I still will roll the kamado back over under cover during winter, or during rain, for long smokes. For shorter cooks, a patio umbrella on a stand suffices.

Katee I doubt a vent is really necessary the way the roof is open at the ends, but let us know how it works out.

Katee if you can get him to run power for you, having real lights and fans will make a huge difference. I ran surface mount conduit in my pavilion, with switches for the fans and lights, along with outlets.

Here's how smoke flow goes in an open ended pavilion with ridge vents. I was burning off the kamado AFTER a chicken cook one day, and looked out the back window and saw this going on...

There was a thin plume of smoke going straight up from the kamado top vent, but it filled the ENTIRE 12x21 roof and was spilling out the ends, out the ridge vent, and the sides as well.

Note the upside down Amazon box perched on an end beam is there to block a robin that wanted to repeatedly build a nest on top of a switched outlet up there that I plug a string of lights into...

EVERY spring I battle robins, who like to nest on flat objects like the top of 6x6 posts. I've got an assortment of random crap I stuck on top of all the posts and the outlet box up there over the years. Most recently I stood a 6" 2x4 block on top of each post, which blocked the robins...

I was working on a plan for a new BBQ shed at our new home in Richardson, Texas. After I price it up it was about $1500. I did a look on Amazon and found something very close to what I want for about $1,000.
i decided to give it a go. It took just 3 day to get here. It came in 4 boxes. It looks like it will take me a couple of days to put it together. I bought the 6x12 but they have a 12x12. This is all I’m looking for to keep the rain off while I cook.
              Here is a link.

jecucolo It was tough enough waiting for them to ship it, now let’s hope the hardware doesn’t take as long the original shipment. On the bright side they didn’t ask you to ship the whole thing back, so they can ship you a new one that would hopefully as hardware.

They were very nice on the phone. I’m hoping they just ship the bolts. I do have a list of bolts needed. I can always go to Lowes and pick some up. If it drags on too long.
