Congratulations . It’s fun having a dedicated grilling area. Now you get to decorate it, hang your tools, storage box for your charcoal, etc.

My BBQ area started out as an open shed for the previous owners boat. That was torn down and concrete removed to set up a swing set and sand box for my kids. The swing set removed 10 years later and concrete poured for a jacuzzi. And finally (25 years later), the jacuzzi removed and put up a pergola and it’s now my BBQ area. I love it. Have Fun!

Congrats on your upgrade. Amazing one day build! Now get cooking!!! 🤣👏

I actually have a contractor coming tomorrow to scope out a patio/cooking/weather control upgrade. Wifey is inheriting a couple bucks and she wants to fund this project so we both can have more enjoyment from our parklike back yard etc. so maybe I will be moving my outdoor cooking gear out of the garage soon. With the Wisconsin winter coming soon it will probably be in the spring. But we’ll see I guess. Maybe we can bang it up quick like you did!

Nice, I've thought many times about doing that. Maybe a roof fan would be nice.

I thought about a roof fan/vent but with the volume of air flow the wall vent pulls, I did not want them fighting for air.

That's the hard part, trying to figure out how much air flow you need. It will be learn as you go. Keep us posted as to what works for you.

Nice smoke house! It will be great to see the patina develop on those walls as the cooks go down and the stories start to fly!

So...my shack spent its first year as an overflow storage shed. Recently was able to empty it to get it ready for what it was meant to be. Just before the REALLY cold weather hit I was able to get the steel diamond plate floor epoxied. Yesterday I completed the install of the 5/8" Durock. Have the wiring from the house to the box run. Will only have a switched light and a couple outlets off of a 20amp.

I was hoping to stay away from any type of roof penetration. That fan is rated to empty that room every 30 seconds. I had it going on high when I was doing some cutting of the Durock and it actually pulled the door open. I am figuring with the windows open and it on medium, I shouldn't have an issue. I am planning on having my smoker in that corner. And as I have mentioned, the only time I will be in there is to put/get food.

rmeugene I was thinking more about smoke residue on the walls and such, but then again my smoker where it sits now throws a lot of smoke at my white vinyl siding and I've never had an issue with smoke residue so maybe I'm just over thinking things

I truly do not care about the patina the processes that occur inside leave on the walls. It was built so I NEVER have to worry about the weather!

One step closer to actually “rolling smoke”. Everything in place, just finalizing placement. Was hoping I would have room for a bigger griddle but it isn’t looking like it.

First meal out of the “shack”. Yah…fake gyros. Place by us sells the pack of meat, 5 pitas and the sauce for $6. You can’t beat that. Exact meal made for a griddle.

I bet it was a real thrill to use your "shack" just as you had envisioned it all along. Congrats on getting it all done--enjoy your cooks in it.
