    Grinder Attachment for KitchenAid

This is the attachment I'm thinking of getting. Anybody have one? Any experience or thoughts on it?

It's the Chef's Choice 796 Premium Metal Food Grinder Attachment

I have a grinder attachment for my kitchen aid. I don't think it is chef's choice, but it works very well.

...the proprietary grinding attachment is made of plastic are you sure the mixer shaft , bearings , brushes , etc' are sturdy enough for the extra weight and size of stainless , it is stainless , right ?

It's stainless. KA used to make a grinder attachment that was metal, also

And I just bought KA's plastic grinder...

If it's of any consolation, the KA "plastic" is just a jacket over metal grinder parts. I have had mine now for something going on twenty years, never missed a beat or failed to grind. If it passed away today, I'd immediately buy another just like it. No issues, excellent piece of equipment.

I have the original grinder and it works like a champ. This is the first time I've seen the Chef's Choice version. I assume it has more features and benefits?

The Chef's Choice grinder is $85 .... the ORIGINAL stainless steel grinder attachment for the KitchenAid is $170 + S/H .... this is why I'm looking at the Chef's Choice Breadhead ..... I have no desire to pay money for the plastic thing that I'm sure will break in short order.

I have had my "plastic" KA grinder for years. No issues with it hokding up. Just saying.

In the interest of full disclosure. The only thing that I have disliked in the KA grinder attachment is it's size. If you are grinding a a few pounds of things to make your own hamburger, for instance. It's great.
However, if you want to grind in quantity, then you will be not be as satisfied. I have a big #22 Stainless Steel grinder for when we do 50-400 lbs of sausage at a time.

yeah, I'm not thinking I will ever be doing more than a few pounds at a time. If that changed, I'd buy something bigger.

I have the KA and only the housing, lock ring and tamper are plastic. All of the working parts, auger, die, and blade, are metal. Not sure what the additional metal would buy me.

I generally don't prefer plastic components .... mostly out of a concern for quality, breaking, that sort of thing.
