I’ll be there Wednesday late, I know a couple folks will be there Wednesday as well. Give me a week or so to get my s… tuff together here, then let’s make some plans for a lunch in San Antone at 2M or some such. If we skip the hotel breakfast Thursday there should be room for both that and Thursday dinner.

Mosca Here’s what AI told me…….

    Burnt Bean BBQ

    Wait Time and Arrival Tips

    • Weekdays (Thu/Fri): Arrive around 9:00–10:00 a.m. to be toward the front, with waits potentially under an hour, though 1.5+ hours is common.

    • Weekends (Sat/Sun): Lines start very early; arriving by 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. is advised for top menu choices.

    • Wait Experience: The line moves slowly (sometimes 10 people = 45+ minutes) because it is a popular, high-volume spot.

    • Pro Tip: Bring chairs, umbrellas for shade, and water, as you will be waiting outside.

Adding another plug for those venturing to Lockhart- Kreuz Market. Recommend shoulder clod if you’ve never had it. Their wood yard is almost as big as their parking lot.
Texas roots — the Kreuz history begins with family tradition, prized coals, and legendary smoke.

Next door is Mill Scale Metalworks. Another recommended stop but not if you’re already salivating over buying a new offset smoker, yakitori or Santa Maria.
Take your barbecue to the next level with custom smokers built to your needs. Mill Scale Metalworks builds offset smokers for competition, commercial and residential use.

Did you forget about this place you visited? I didn’t make it, but it sounded great!

I have the 15 passenger van reserved. Assuming they know how to keep the reservation, then we should be good to go. I've never been in that area of Texas and I'm up for going wherever. So we can get together, pick a place or places and pile as many will fit into the van.

Based on my experience from the Meetup I went to previously, I would prefer to have a taste of many places rather than a huge meal at one place. But that would require a few people to get involved and everyone orders something to share and then move on to the next place. Sounds doable, but that's just my opinion.

One more thing, for anyone who hasn’t eaten at the Burnt Bean, just go! If you’re gonna travel all that distance to attend, it’d be a shame not to visit the #1 spot in Texas while you’re there. Waiting in line is no big deal, it’s actually kind of fun getting to B.S. with everyone and talk BBQ, even with strangers. Go on Friday and plan on being there by 9:30 am. Saturday would be huge lines! They open at 11:00. Don’t miss their hot Cheeto queso Mac and cheese!

If you wanna do WI Bubba ‘s suggestion and try several places in one day, then do Lockhart on Saturday. As I mentioned, there’s about 5 good spots in town very close to each other, there’s a couple of them within walking distance of each other…and don’t miss Terry Blacks BBQ, not to be confused with Black’s Original BBQ which is also there. I’ve heard it’s pretty good too but I’ve not eaten there. Barb’s BQ is also in Lockhart and supposedly excellent. Several members ate there the last time and gave rave reviews. The only
problem with Barb’s is the line moves excruciatingly slow and it’s a tiny place inside. Here’s a little primer on Lockhart’s best places……

every saturday 11 am until sold out

Pioneers of the original Texas BBQ experience! Owned by the same family since 1932. Nationwide shipping available.

A Lockhart legacy — Kreuz Market brings the smoke with over a century of flavor. Our world-famous Texas BBQ is smoked to perfection over post oak wood in our signature pits. Let's eat!

Smitty’s Market is also in Lockhart but couldn’t get to their website.

      Prepare to drool…..🤓
Located in the heart of downtown Seguin, come & enjoy authentic Texas BBQ from revered pitmasters, & as always, Viva BBQ!

The cool thing about Barb’s is how different it is. It’s tiny, and it doesn’t feel like a bbq restaurant, it feels like a bookstore coffee shop. And while some things are the same as other places (brisket, turkey, sausage), other things are completely different (Molotov ribs, lamb chops, green spaghetti).

The downside is that there isn’t a lot of seating, and the line moves slowly. The contrast to Terry Black’s couldn’t be more striking.

I went to Blacks on my own last time, as well as our trip to Terry Black's. IMO Terry Black's was head and shoulders above Black's.

Now that you mention it, I remember a few people who weren’t that impressed with Black’s…..and not just the Lockhart location.

In the town of Taylor, Tx, near Austin, is a legendary BBQ joint called Louie Mueller’s, been around forever and is well known here in Texas. They’re known for their beef ribs but their other stuff is pretty dang good too! Here’s a little video of the owner, Wayne Mueller, talking about his place and how they do things there. Good stuff! I might be interested in going there if anyone else is.

Been to: Louis Mueller's Taylor; Terry Blacks Austin; Southside Market Elgin; Parish BBQ Austin (food truck); Salt Lick Round Rock and Driftwood; probably a couple others that aren't coming up in the memory banks.

Alan Brice The owners, Ernest and David, are also two of the nicest guys you could meet. On our last visit Ernest made the rounds at our table twice during our meal, checking on everyone, asking if we needed anything etc. He was very engaging with us, took time to chat with us and answer questions, just an overall great guy. After lunch several of us went to the pits where David, the other owner was, and he was the same way. He actually talked with us in the pit area for 20-30 minutes, all during the lunch rush! He couldn’t have been more gracious!

      Ernest….

Here’s a video of the lines, shot the day after Texas Monthly named em #1. This was 10 months ago. I wish he’d have told us what time of day it was. Seeing that they were open, it had to be sometime after 11 am.

Is there. Mexican restaurant already chosen for dinner one night? If not, I recommend Garcia’s https://garcias.shop/
I reconnected with an old shipmate that I found living in San Marcos. Garcia’s is owned by his daughter’s family.
