Thought I’d share this with anyone who might be interested, especially our Texas members. I just ran across this book about Texas BBQ joints, 512 pages! 😳 ….ands lots of beautiful color pics. Check it out, I just ordered one. $30. Hard Cover, $35. Kindle

Most Texans know our barbecue traditions are more complicated than a bit of salt, pepper, and smoke, but how much else is there to say? For Austin-based food and travel writer Veronica Meewes, the answer is: a lot. Her new 512-page book, Texas BBQ: The Art of Low and Slow, covers the subject in great detail, from long restaurant and pitmaster profiles to shorter blurbs that weave the complicated web of who's who in Texas 'cue. Gorgeous photographs round out this feast of a coffee table book.

Just bought it on Amazon. $30.00; retail is normally $50.00. I also bought "Barbacoa: The Heart of Tex-Mex Barbecue" by Brandon Hurtado of Hurtado BBQ in Dallas for $15.00.

My copy arrived today and so far it is a great read, I really enjoy the stories on how these pitmasters got their starts. One of the heaviest food books that I have; only J.Kenji Lopez-Alt's books are heavier.

A suggested Tex-Mex restaurant. One of our favorites in Austin. Has two locations near San Marcos.

Earn one point for every dollar you spend. You will also be updated on special events and reward program benefits.

Is that all? Shoot, I’ll have that done by 10:30…..🙄 David, you know anything about Patillo’s Barbecue in Beaumont that’s mentioned on that list?

I have not been to Patillo's but they are known for their beef sausage: A specific style to SE Texas found from here to Houston: it is loosely stuffed in the casing and has a lot of fat. When you cut into one the fat will ooze out and cover the dinner plate.

Ok, just got my book delivered. My thoughts…..just get it! This is a first class quality book, not only the feel of it, but there’s lots of pictures and the editorials about each restaurant were informative and well thought out. This puppy weighs 5 lbs. 2 ounces! 😳 I only spent about 5 minutes thumbing through it, but that was enough to convince me I’m glad I bought it. My pictures suck because of the glare, but don’t worry, they look just fine in person.

I just finished reading this behemoth. This book is a pretty in depth look at the current Texas BBQ scene. It is amazing how much Texas BBQ has grown and evolved in the last decade, heck in the last 5 years. So many new places have opened, the diversity and fusion of foods and cultures is staggering. I hope they are able to weather the high beef prices and keep on smoking until i can try them all!

It's looking like our Boys Night weekend is going to be in the Miami area, so I won't make it. There is a slight chance that it will move to New Orleans, but i doubt it at this late date. I plan on swinging through the area in the RV a few weeks later though, so I'll reach out to the TX bunch then.

Kevin, I just heard on 700Wlw talk radio, a station heard over a dzn states or more, New Riff was just recognized as the best bourbon choice overall!
They have a counter where you can belly up and taste test. I highly recommend devoting an hour or two. That is huge! Best Choice in the World! I did not hear that wrong.

Well, things change. So I am back in. I will be staying at the San Marcos Springs RV Park which is 9 minutes from the hotel.

By the way. Halle agreed to postpone her wedding so we can flaunt our relationship in front of John one last time.

My plan is to arrive Wednesday early afternoon.

Based on the book Panhead John posted above ("Texas BBQ - The Art Of Low And Slow") I would really like to hit San Antonio this trip, specifically 2M BBQ and Reese Bros. BBQ.

I'm also open to going to Louie Mueller's again if anyone wants to go. I'll be hitting Burnt Bean in Seguin for brunch on Sunday.

So many places, so little time...

You meant we will be hitting burnt bean. I talked with the owner of the rv park and he lives in Seguin. He didn't seem all that impressed with the bean. I almost decided to stay elsewhere

If anyone going to the MeatUp is interested, I’ve got some Costco Prime ribeye steaks I can let you have for $14.72 lb….what my cost was after the discount. Costco sells Prime ribeye steaks in the package for $25.99 lb. They had a sale on their primals in November for $75.00 off and I bought one and cut it into 1 1/2” thick steaks and got 12 steaks out of the primal. I vacuum sealed and froze them that day. Anyway, it’ll take me forever to go through what I’ve got left and I thought I’d bring some to the MeatUp in April if anyone’s interested in buying one or some, I’ve got 7 that I can let go of. They range in weight from 1 lb and 1 oz to 1 lb 4 oz’s. They’re very tasty and tender as hell! 😋

This was the primal I bought…..

Unfortunately Uncle Bob and Lee had to cancel their trip to the MeatUp due to an emergency surgery for one of their feline fur babies. Hope all turns out well Bob! The steaks are now available if anyone is interested. $110. for the 7 Prime ribeyes.

Got something else for sale if anyone’s interested. I have an almost brand new Hone Knife Sharpener I’ll let go cheap, only used once. It comes with all 3 discs needed, the 1,000 and 2,000 grit, as well as the 3,000 grit honing disc. The sharpener is selling right now for $131.00……I’ve also got a set of their Hone Angle Mates, which are 2 rubber strips you can place under it for different sharpening angles, other than 15* or 20*. They’re $19 for a set. My total cost was $150. plus tax. I’ll let it go for $50.00 if anyone’s interested and I’ll bring it to the MeatUp. There’s nothing wrong with it and people love it, but I bought a new set of knives after I bought this…..I have since bought an electric sharpener which is a little easier for me. I’m a lazy bastard when it comes to sharpening knives, which I’ve mentioned here before. 🥸
