    Spring Edition….Texas MeatUp 2022 Begins

The first day resulted in no arrests so far, but that might change after Uncle Bob gets here. The local bail bondsmen are gidddy with anticipation. We had the pleasure of meeting Soonerpop, who drove in from Dallas. He seems like a great guy, in spite of being a Sooner’s fan. Thursday evening we all hung out in the shade with a few cocktails. We had great Mexican food last night just down the street at Gonzales Mexican Bar and Grill. Friday for lunch we went to Brett’s Backyard BBQ, food was fantastic as usual. After the rest of the gang arrive we’ll post more pics throughout the weekend.

    58 limited and Soonerpop…aka Don

Friday afternoon at The Rainbow Courts. L to R: Troutman, 58 limited, Don…Soonerpop, PJ, Dan Ratliff- owner of The Rainbow. Also pictured are his 2 wonderful kids Izzy and Boomer. I have no idea why Izzy is sniffing Troutman I’ve been around him many times, gotta tell ya folks…..he really don’t smell that great.

I can’t express how bummed I am to not be there. I look forward to seeing more pics and anecdotes. Hoping to attend in the fall. Party on!

I had the 2 meat plate at Brett’s, pork ribs and brisket. My sides were brisket beans and a brisket hash brown casserole. Everything was just as great as we had before, but everyone thought the brisket hash brown casserole was the standout side dish. Troutman even commented he wanted the recipe, what does that tell ya? 👍 My huge brisket slice was kind of hidden under the large ribs. My lunch total was $21.75 with a drink, probably about average for these days, but they do give you a lot of meat for the bucks. Soonerpop even commented he thought they gave us more here than they do in Dallas Q joints.

Even if you, CapnMike, and I were all there, it wouldn’t be enough to manage PJ, Steve, and Dave

I may be more disappointed about not getting some great Mexican food than anything else!

Here’s my turkey plate from lunch. Street corn, hash brown brisket casserole—excellent.

Sorry I had to leave early, will do better next time. While there only one night and a couple of days, I worked really hard with PJ to get him to come out of his shell, and I think we made significant progress. Of course, with him you measure progress in very small increments, but it’s there. Have fun the next couple of days, look forward to next time.

FireMan, I’ll post this on the Road Webers II thread as well, but look what I saw as I was leaving the Rainbow Courts behind the back row of cottages. They’re everywhere, they’re everywhere!!

Looks like a great time! I love how post #1 has a shot of a dog with his nose buried in Troutman 's crotch...

Great looking BBQ, and I hope you all have a great weekend.

Hahaha, we've had several Pyrenees over the years and, well, that's their natural height. The biggest one we had could look me in the eye when he stood on his hind legs. Gotta love a dog you don't have to bend down to pet.

jfmorris Dogs can tell who is an animal lover.

He might have been sorry he went.
He may have a nice special scent.
            His roommate said "whew!"
            "What did you do?"
So he slept with the dog in a tent.

Unfortunately, I can not make it this year. I had an emergency at work and I am on site for a water treatment project all week and this weekend. I was trying to get outta here today and fly down to make it, but it’s just not gonna happen this year.

I meant to contact the group earlier but I have not been able to get away.

I am really sorry I can’t make it down to meet all of you. I know I let you guys down, and I regret that. Things are just so busy with my full time job.

I will make it happen next year!

          John

Sorry you couldn’t make it, but life happens. But look at it this way…You can tell from the pictures this thing went right in the dumper when I left Friday afternoon. We can meet at the next one and breathe some life into the gathering. HA!

One of these days, I'll hop in the pickup truck and drive west to meet up with you guys. I'm afraid if I take the wife's Subaru Impreza that gets 36mpg that I won't be allowed into Texas...
