I need to go back and check the rules and what is the diff between members and active members. Based on the numbers and paying dues 1 time... Members: 15,837 Active Members: 2,672 ... 1,300:1 for members and 200:1 for active members. I am guessing they are pulling from the "members" list pool

I wish I could or some one could come up with a way to make the average user more likely to win. It almost seems like there hasn't been a winner that has posted to the Pit more than five times. Clearly I am not here for the Giveaway, but it would be nice to be able to see the winner be a regular poster member. It would be cool if a "regular" won it, then we could actually see them using it.
I'm sure I should just say Congrats to the Winner and move on but I think about this everytime this thread comes up.

One way to perhaps achieve this would be to make members actively click a button or whatever to "re-up" each month indicating they want to be in the pool. That way, if you didn't at least read the archives once in a while, you wouldn't be in the pool... (i'm not advocating this necessarily...just pointing out that it might achieve the goal of only active members in the drawing pool)...Originally posted by Spinaker View PostI wish I could or some one could come up with a way to make the average user more likely to win. I like this idea more than weighting winners towards regular posters. I have been a member for almost 2 years, rarely post, but read the forums weekly for recipes and tips. I just don't post on web forums very often, even on forums that I moderate - just isn't my style!Originally posted by Stevo View Post

I understand the frustration, but I would imagine that a number of paying, registered users are reading instead of posting, and I don't think they should be penalized when they are paying $24/yr just as everyone else is.

We are limited by very prescriptive contest rules. And access to The Pit is a benefit, not a requirement. It wouldn't be right to make folks come in here and click a button every month if they just aren't into being in the forum.Originally posted by FreeHarold View Post

I can think of one way that might address some of the concerns.
It is already the case that anyone can enter without be a member by filling out an entry form. This is to satisfy the "no purchase required" stipulation. This implies that a person actually read the notice that outlines that.
That further implies that a requirement that members have been active to the extent they have actually accessed the site during a given time period would be acceptable. The forum software already tracks accesses, so that would be trivial to determine and would not impose any additional burden on members.
It would effectively put everyone on an equal footing in that the only requirement would be that people read the site and still retains the intent that pit membership carries an automatic entry inasmuch as members do not need to fill out a form as long as they are active (reading) during the period in question.
I think this would pass legal muster. Thoughts?
