    Stick Burner?

I’m absolutely inundated with post oak limbs. There are over a hundred of them on our acreage. I’ve never owned a backyard size stick burner. I had a big one at one time that could do 8 briskets at a time. I think I might be in the market for a very well built smaller stick burner. I’m talking enough space for 4 racks of spare ribs or 2 briskets. I’ve looked at KBQ and want something simpler. I don’t care if it’s heavy. Once it gets to the back patio it won’t move again. Can you recommend a well designed, well made, smaller backyard stick burner?

Have you looked at Franklin smokers? Also, Henrik was building smokes for export, I think. Not sure if he still is. They looked awesome and along the lines you describe.

Would you want to tend for 12+ hours, feeding the fire every 45 minutes?

I’m 73, retired, live in a beautiful area where most of the time there is no man made noise, just nature. I have that kind of time.

Same, been doing that for a good twenty years now. Just love the results from the stick burner. I am following your post Oak as I am hoping to upgrade myself.

@Oak Smoke...envious of having that kind of time. Get you a stick burner...I bet you make some absolutely delicious BBQ!

Many might wonder why we would start making a pipe-style smoker now in our company history. We have actually made many styles of smokers over the years, and many types of offset pipe style smokers. Traditionally, we have had the tenet that forming steel into the shape we want, instead of re-purposing pipe was superior in our eyes in the design of a smoker.

while I do not have one, I have put my hands on several. Their magnum sniper, and vault are on both our trailers, and father in law has a vault at both houses. Absolute top quality stuff, made right there in Houston.

I won the Char-Griller Competition Pro as the 3rd pick 2 or 3 years ago. It was right at $600. Now all I see that is built decent is the Competition Pro at $700 n change.
I really like mine other than I had to use a floor jack to attach the firebox. It will do all that you are asking.

LoneStar Grillz since you haven’t mentioned a budget!

If I can catch the wife in a generous mood it’s possible. I have both a birthday and Christmas coming up. I may offer her a twofer. The other thing is she actually likes me!

And you probably can handle the freighting yourself knowing your background. That will save some bucks.

Lynn, I highly recommend getting one of these. In fact I’ve got 2 of em, one for the front garage area and one for my patio.

I can see why you like them so much. They are nice! The big thing is if I pay that much for something it will have an address, float or fly. Can you imagine? My divorce lawyer died a couple of years ago. I’m too old to find a new one.

Finding a used LSG in Chicagoland hasn’t worked out, but there are quite a few in Texas (I know it’s a big state). There’s a Facebook group called "Lonestar Grillz - Buy and Sell" that has quite a bit of activity.

        Or something like these?

The Gladiator is Backwoods Smoker's first dry smoker and we didn't hold anything back! Most dry cookers are a headache to use, but the Gladiator has upright design and easy access to the fire box and meat chamber for optimal experience and performance! Not to mention you can use your Gladiator in three different ways:

Lone Star Grillz, Pitts and Spits, or Franklin. I like my KBQ, but haven’t used it enough to be just to it for a legit recommendation. I’d probably ask Jerod Broussard to weld me up something if I lived that close. Also, seems like we have a member that has gotten into offset building in OK, but has changed names a few times. RealDocBbq?

I'd get realdocBBQ to weld me an offset before I'd tackle that with the current set up I got

I cook on a pitts and spitts santamaria style grill often. Pretty solid.

Thanks for the mention Jerod Broussard.

Oak Smoke I'm not THAT far from you, and I have one I am going to finish soon - whenever I get off my arse and get back out to the shop. I've been dragging my feet on getting it painted. It's a 30x48, 125-gallon cook chamber, fully insulated firebox and door.

I had it sandplasted after this pic, but then couldn't get things lined up to get it painted before it started rusting again, so I need to get it blasted again - or just do an oiled finish like I've done on previous ones. Haven't 100% decided yet. A higher end finish leads to better sales, so that's what I've been considering.

Here is a comparison of another custom builder out there doing something similar:

Features 150 gallon smoker 30” diameter Fully Insulated firebox 3” of insulation Front folding table Air vent on firebox Top & Bottom rack slide out Cook chamber it’s 1/4” 36”x 30” Round firebox it’s 3/16” thick Inner pipe it’s 3/8” thick Custom handles & hinges Foldable stack with collector & damper Pull handle Counter weight on cook chamber door. 2 tel-tru thermometers 14” off road package Wood storage frame 1” drain ball valve Finish with clear coat linseed oil 4 D-Rings Price $6000 plus tax

That's where I'm at right now.

My next build will either be a long skinny 220-gallon on a trailer or a 500-gallon on a trailer. Both significantly larger than what I think you're looking for. Just using up materials I've already got.

Oak Smoke another option you might look into is a mini or full size Smokeslinger. They're great pits and you can do a LOT of different things with them. Direct heat or offset. Made for cooking more with coals, but can be run in many different ways. I've cooked on 'em several times and they're legit, the real deal.

Versatile Full Size Smokeslinger for BBQ pitmasters. Texas-made, 8 week delivery. Shop now!

They also make the Liberty 94 offset, which I've cooked on and is a really great backyard offset in the range of what you're looking for. I'd look at that before an M&M or Workhorse or Franklin with their ultra-premium prices. Another option is Blue Smoke Smokers, made by Big Phil's Smokers & Metal Works, I think, but their more economical line - lower end finishes, but still heavy 3/8" materials, I believe. All of those are great products made by great folks - in Texas, too.

I don’t want to work that hard, and the pellet smoker has spoiled me. If it had a better smoke profile I might say goodbye to most of my other cookers.
