Welcome from north Texas. I’ll throw my vote to the Weber kettle. You can do grilling and smoking with it, reasonably priced, very versatile as others have said. Lots of info about two-zone cooking, etc. on the site and Meathead’s cookbook. Have fun with it.

Per Panhead John ‘s request! The decision tree and questions!

I think a lot of folks here love helping others spend their money on new toys, myself included. Here's some thoughts on the best questions to consider as well as links to old threads for relevant discussion: Key Questions (thanks Old Glory ) that buyers should consider and share their thoughts on so we can provide the best

                  Welcome back to The Pit.

Another piece of info that will help us help you is the number of people you will be cooking for. A small family doesn't need a big cooker, but if you do a lot of entertaining, you might want to consider a larger cooker.

Like said above. A Weber kettle is a great place to start. You've already found the best place for information and association.

Welcome from Chicago! I agree with the Weber plus SNS advice. I used that combo for a couple of years before adding the Oklahoma Joe Bronco a couple of weeks ago.
