You might take a look at Lang Smokers in Georgia, I modeled my propane tank smoker using the reverse flow plate that they used and modified my firebox to meet my needs..... 24 inch of pieces of firewood. It produces the best results for long smokes I have ever produced. Tempers the firebox heat, and produces a bark and smoke ring that is out of this world. Just got back from Houston from a family reunion that I smoked 2 briskets.. Rave reviews from relatives and comments that it was better than the Brisket House in Houston. Now that is a compliment my friend! If you decide to do a reverse flow let me know and I will send you my research. Email at [email protected] if interested. Buena Suerte!

So, it’s been taking longer than I expected, but finally got it mounted on the trailer, and cut the doors!

Looking good. If it is too tall you can move the axle to on top of the leaf springs or cut the feet on the tank and sit the belly of the tank directly onto the chassis and reweld the feet back on.

Cool thanks for the update !! Looking forward to the final product. I think in all of our heart of hearts we want to build one just for the experience and knowing it was yours. As a former welder and fabricator I missed the boat on building a big rig. Think of all the good que that will eventually come out of that baby !!!

Go buy yourself a MIG welder and grinder. Don't need much else other than that.

Those days are long gone my friend. My wife and I are downsizing soon, no shop space available. My AWS D1.1 days have come and gone.

AWS D1.1 - haven't heard that in years. I was a nuclear field engineer and designed a lot of conduit and cable tray supports - all welds were per AWS D1.1.

New job has me busy and haven’t been able to cook as much as I’d like, but the new smoker is chugging along just fine! Almost done, just need to attach the smokestack and finish firebox and we are ready for the first fire. After that its just cosmetic details like brushing it all over to remove rust! I’m already in love! Huge thanks to Ahumadora for all his help! I can’t wait to light this bad boy up.

Btw, I love this smokestack I found yesterday!

What negative impact could there be from a smoke stack that is too long? Too much draw?

Yes, it will consume too much fuel.

Also: if there's a high draught you're gonna dry out the meat on the outside before it's properly cooked on the inside.
