    Here we go again!

So around July we were driving to neighboring Guatemala and on the highway I thought I saw a big ole tank in a scrapyard. We decided we'd stop on the way back to check it out, since I've been wanting to build a bigger smoker. But we came back a different route, and I hadn't had the chance to take the trip again to get a look at it. Well, about two weeks ago I took the trip and here it is, my new project:

According to my calculations its about 203 gallons, though we're filling it up with water as we speak to get an exact measurement. The guy told me he'd had it about 18 months with no interest from any potential buyers, so I got a relatively good price for it!

This one is going to be amazing, I'm correcting some minor flaws we had on the last build (6 gallon offset), and will be trailer mounted. With this new capacity, I'll finally be able to go commercial/catering. I'm switching jobs soon, and will take about 20 days off before the new one, so I want to have this ready real soon so I can play with it. I'm terribly excited for this!

Nice! What are you going to use for a firebox? Send me some drawings of what you have in mind BEFORE you start cutting it up.

Will do! Thank you! I'll be using a 27x27x27 inch semi-insulated (air gap) box.

Send me the exact dimensions of the tank. There should be a certification label welded on the tank with the capacity if it has not been cut off already.

Henrik 's thread on his build was very helpful last time I built one of these, I'm sure I'll be using it again!

NICE!!!! I love that it already has feet on the bottom. That should help during your build. Good luck and have fun.

As a former structural/pipe fabricator and a certified D1.1 welder, I'm always interested in these builds. I haven't tackled one in over 30 years but loved doing it, even though I was pretty much clueless at the time. Keep us abreast of your build with lots of descriptive pix !!! Good luck !!!
