Thanks for the compliments. It was a rewarding build. Took me a month, but a mason probably would take two days. It was a learning experience!
Here is the build site contact. . .
Ralf shows how to make concrete tops if you don't have salvaged material around. He thinks used brick looks so much better. I paid 50 cents each for new brick.
Ralf Gomm is the designer. Enjoy this stop action grill build in the site above. More detail, materials, build ideas directly from Ralf.
I stopped it about 200 times during my build to measure and count blocks/brick. We've been enjoying it for three years now. My neighbors make out pretty well too.

Wow, very pretty. Nice brick work, hate to see it get all smokey, lol ! I especially love the Santa Maria style grill you installed. Bet that was a real labor of love.
(Next time (if there is a next time) order a small 1/2 yard of concrete, they will small batch it for you and save your back)

Hi Troutman. You assume I knew what I was doing. I had no idea how much concrete I would need. I started with a four inch pad, but since it was on a slope, the back was not above ground, so rebared and added another 4 inches. Hindsight 20-20!
Thanks for the idea for others that might need an eight inch thick pad. Hand mixing one or two bags of concrete at a time is no joke.
