If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Welcome to the Griddle club! I don't think anything else quite competes for certain styles of cooking, and smash burgers were a great way to break in your new cooker!
I need to get out there and uncover my griddle and cook something, for crying out loud. Just haven't been motivated much lately.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
$250 is the magic number where even someone who is relatively immune to MCS (like me) has no excuse!
It is the exact right added cooker for almost any patio: it allows you to make some things (burgers) sufficiently different enough to be useful, and brings other things (stir fry, breakfasts) outdoors finally, where really everything belongs.
I have been eyeing one ever since RonB posted his thread. If the one at Costco had been $249 it would on my deck today. Congrats and that is a killer patio.
Congrats!
Mrs. Skinsfan gifted me a 22" that Costco had on special, ($159.00 includes hard cover, carry bag and hose for 20lb tank), that we use all the time. You'll love it!

Oh yeah! A griddle is a must have! I've “sold” several…and I don’t work for anyone that makes or sells them. LOL
Have fun with the new toy. And while smash burgers are a great alternative…I LOVE cooking up a bunch of fajitas on mine.
My God forget the grill (although I will take one of those burgers!!) that patio and view are f****g AWESOME !!! I say, meat-up in New Mexico next !!!!
Congratulations on the addition to the patio family. Can your wife talk to mine? I had mentioned that a flat top was on my outdoor wish list, my much better half surprised me with a larger Lodge cast iron griddle. I think I'm starting to wear her down.

The fun of buying a new toy….are the toys you buy for said toy but I feel I need a few things to really take advantage of this griddle. As I continue to pick up some fun things, I’ll post those directly here most likely.
The first thing I picked up was this silicon griddle cover that sits directly on the griddle surface and over the edge. It’s not water I’m worried about, it’s the dust that we get and requires me to shop vac everything on the patio once a month if not more in the spring. So, with the main cover for the entire unit, the hard top cover and this griddle, I know the dust will be minimal, if anything at all.
This fits well, and I especially like that it has the lip that completely covers the griddle.
The hard top actually fits a little better in my opinion with this silicon cover now, which I like.
The second thing I picked up was this cheap infa-red thermometer from Amazon. I was surprised at the price of these - it’s nothing special, but for wanting to know the temps of the griddle surface, $15 was something I was willing to pay. Will give this a go on the griddle soon, although you know I had to walk around the house and see what the temp was on everything! Hahah.
Those are the new additions for the griddle. It’s just so easy to go gangbusters on Amazon…but I’ll wait on a few other things like extra tongs, griddle spatulas, and see what else I think of while I use it for a while. If you have suggestions, let me know!

hahah! Such a cool $15 toy!!!!! I need to use this a bit more to figure out the spots, but it did confirm the seasoning pattern on the cook top. But, still fun to have so I can get dialed in on the temp for various cooking.
Absolutely, an infrared for griddle cooking is ESSENTIAL! And like you, I love checking temps all around the house, my foot, the dog's nose... etc. Although, the dog AND the cat have never been friends, when the red light comes out, they are both in a cooperative effort trying to catch it. It's hysterical! lol
