Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
To continue this subject in the proper area, I am about to purchase the full size insert for my Spirit S-330. I want a full size griddle. I do not have the room on the deck, I don't want it in the garage and finally, I do not want to deal with propane tanks as in lugging to get filled. I have a bulk install from my 500 gallon underground tank (heat and hot water) for my gasser, so I'm good.
So my question does anyone have this for your gas grill? I like to see if anyone has had any experience. Since I am going with the Weber product, it will fit like a glove and being carbon steel equal heat throughout the griddle should not be an issue.
Yes. I purchased a Little Griddle for my Genesis. I would assume they make one for Spirit-S-330. I have been very happy with it. It is stainless steel.
Panhead John - Properly oiled, I've had no problems. Balancing it properly is the bigger issue so that the oil does not pool in the corners or run off into the trap. Lousy plastic casters.
Don't have one, and probably no help for you, but I will be buying a Grilla Primate gas grill.
It comes with grates and a full size griddle.
Can get a 2/3 griddle as an option, then have griddle and grates at same time.

Me too, glitchy . I like my Steelmade a lot, but a custom fit with a Weber griddle insert would be nice. I don't think Weber makes one for the Summit, yet. Hopefully they will.
Yeah fzxdoc, you know it’s going to have the proper amount of venting for your grill. On the downside, the Weber logo is probably going to make it cost double what it really should. Often the warranty makes up for some of that though.

fzxdoc, while at the Weber site looking for status of my order I noticed a flatop for the Summit. I didn't go to look at the details of it. So, I didn't see price or another information. Not that I want MCS to come into play for you.
Thanks, RichieB . I'll go look. I just checked there a couple of weeks ago and there was still no Summit-sized flattop listed. BRB with what I find. Thanks for the tip!

Well, RichieB , I'm back. Still no Full-Size Griddle Insert for the Summit 600 series.
What you may have seen is their Porcelain-Enameled CI Griddle Insert for the 400-600 series, but that's not what I'm looking for. It's the same size as the better-designed Steelmade flattop insert that I already use on the Summit.
Hopefully they'll soon come out with the Full-Size Griddle Insert like the one you ordered for your Weber gasser, only for the Summit series. Fingers crossed.
Got the shipping confirmation this morning from Weber and FEDEX
It will br here Monday. Not sure on the what yet. I saw a video of Malcom Reed doing a smashed breakfast sausage on his Wedber standalone griddle. It certainly looked good. Here's the link.
I bought a griddle master insert custom sized to my genesis several years ago now for many of the same reasons you mention. I'm satisfied with it. At the time they didnt have any grease management (not sure if they do now or not) so I made my own holes that diverted grease as far away from burners as I could. The upshot to going with an insert for an existing grill is that when you want to go back to grill mode you can. The lid also makes a handy melting dome.
I like using my gasser for a griddle because the lid and surround keep most of the splatters well-contained. And, as you say, it makes the gasser a twofer.

With the Weber griddle insert arriving Monday, I did my last cook on the Lodge C.I. tonight. Just a burger, bacon and cheese. I hope to sell this. I can't/won't use it on the glass top inside. It did the job but I look forward to having a full size standalone and a gass grill in the same foot print.

If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I'm curious to see how that works, since my son has talked about getting the same thing for his Spirit 3 burner. I like that it is pre-seasoned carbon steel, and NOT porcelain coated cast iron like their smaller griddle inserts that drop in place of a cooking grate. The porcelain finish on those is eventually going to come off, and I can't picture it being as non stick as good seasoned carbon steel will be. While my Camp Chef also came pre-seasoned, I can tell you it gets more seasoned and non-stick over time, just like a good cast iron skillet. Every once in a while I'll do another layer of seasoning on it after its had a good workout and cleaning.
Yes, pre-seasoned and according to Weber, ready to cook on. I'm going to do a 30 minute session with canola oil. Now if the weather cooperates to get this done and a cook done. Still hasn't arrived. FEDEX usually is between now and 3.

RichieB I *highly* recommend using avacado oil instead of canola oil for your seasoning, and for your griddle cooking. It has a higher smoke point, and won't burn as often when cooking. It is all I use for seasoning and cooking on my flat top. It costs about $8-10 for a bottle at the grocery store, but I get mine at Sam's Club, and fill my squeeze bottle for the griddle from that.
Is it just me, or does anyone else get a "fishy" smell if you use something like spray canola oil on a hot grill? I don't get that with any other oils I use...

Well, it arrived. I took it out and per direction washed with soapy warm water and a good rinse and drying. OK, let's get this puppy seasoned. I go out on the deck and guess what? Yep, effing rain. It stopped but there are green blobs all around when I look at the radar. I'll have to wait. Here it is.
They did a good job of providing the ventilation needed for the burners, with the openings at the front and back. And you have a nice vertical wall where they folded it up in front of the back vent, to push your food against with the spatula. I guess all the grease will go to the back left corner. Just keep an eye on the grease cup under the grill - if it overflows you will have a mess on your hands!
It's on now, only doing one pass. It's nice and dark. Yes, the whole on the left takes the grease right down to the pan. I replaced it prior to getting it going. It is recommended to empty after each use. I would say it depends on what is cooked and how much grease.

It's seasoned and ready. If the weather holds out in the morning, I'll be doing bacon, ham and eggs at a minimum, brunch. It's suggested to do fatty foods on the 1st cook. I have shaved steak in the freezer. I might do a bunch and use at a later date for sammichs. Oh, I have sausages too. Why not?
