First cook and hot spot check. Pit Boss griddle.

Alrighty folks. Just picked up a Pit Boss Sierra 3 burner griddle from Walmart. Not an easy task to find one. Sid P actually found this one for me. Thank you my friend.

Anyway, put it together yesterday and did the burn off this morning.

I wanted to check for hot spots to give me an idea of how this puppy will cook. So why not do both, cook something and check the cooking surface temps.
What better way than to go with BACON 🥓.

In the pics you can see where the hottest areas are. Actually going from hottest to coolest as I removed the bacon from the griddle. Notes : 1- the coolest part was only about 80* cooler than the hottest spot. 2- this was at the highest setting. Temps were 545*-458.
3- I used the lowest setting on all 3 burners to cook the bacon.

I took the bacon off as it got done. I never moved the bacon around, other than flipping over. So each piece cooked from start to finish in the same place.

Bacon cooked perfectly and it took literally 45 seconds to wipe off the griddle.

So far I like it. 👍👍

Great Sid! See if he’ll stick around to help you with the assembly. Not required but it’s easier with 2 people. 👍

I did the same thing for my first cook. And now that I know how it heats etc, I can use it to my advantage. Expl: last night I did a flat iron steak , mushrooms, and hash browns. Shrooms on the left, the lower temp zone. Steak in the middle, and the browns to the right. Everything done at about the same time. The same 45 seconds to clean up. Love it.

It was just the first use. But if the coating holds up this is going to get a whole bunch of usage. In part because of the ease of clean up.

Steve B that is the only thing holding me back from getting one. Will that nonstick surface hold up?

texastweeter Only time will tell. But it does seem to be a durable coating. At least so far.

My resistance is dwindling. I have been leaning toward a Grilla Primate for my outdoor kitchen that is being designed now. I'm starting to question, though, just how much I would use that in gas grill mode. And with the huge advantages of the ceramic surface, Pit Boss is looking better and better to me. Now I just have to figure out if I can convert the 5 burner to built-in.

Go to the Pit Boss site there's a PDF for the operation that has a parts blow up drawing. Looks like the top section could be used separately from the lower cabinet, though might have to fab some sort of support framework on the sides (and maybe back?) for ventilation of the heat under the griddle using the supplied louver panel from the cabinet.

I had help from my son (and 5 year old granddaughter 😊) and it took about 90 minutes. To be honest my son did most of the work. I "assisted". 🤣🤷‍♂️

It took me about 2-1/2hrs. But I took my time cause I’m not sure how much I can push myself yet. Otherwise probably would have taken closer to 2hrs.

Now I know it took Panhead John about 3 days. He’s a little challenged. 😂😂😂

It took me about 3 hours. A lot of that time though was spent talking to hot babes who stopped by to admire my tank cover…..
