Flat top replacing gas grill??

This thread has convinced me it is time to rotate the gasser out. All I ever use it for is smashburgers and it isn't very good at that. It's a Spirit 310 and lord help me I did not realize the burners ran right to left, not front to back (it was a garage sale) . so the indirect zone is no good. You can run a griddle or CI pan on it while on high but DO NOT put your hands over the open areas around the griddle/pan or they will be burnt to nubs.
I also have a Camp Chef 3 burner stove & griddle but have not been happy about temp control & consistency across the griddle. Time for an upgrade.

Considering that this is the current and constant state of my gasser:
It's left as an exercise for the reader to determine how it fits into my cooking workflow.
Seriously, I barely use it as a grill. I use the side burner all the time, and occasionally use it as a warming oven, but it's 16 years old and not very good at being a grill at all. But between GriddleBot, 3 kettles, a PBJr., and the hibachi I think I've pretty well got my bases covered.
So even though I keep thinking I "need" a new gasser, I keep thinking a wok burner and another prep table would serve me well. Or a 2-3 burner Camp Chef stove... Or...
Although, a PK300 would look real nice right there. (not gonna happen)

bmillin and mnavarre If either of you are looking at a new griddle, seriously, I cannot recommend the new Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle enough. It is so easy to cook on and clean up afterwards. That new ceramic cook top is probably going to be the future in griddles, IMO. I don’t see any downfalls or negativity to it so far. I know it’s still new and longevity isn’t established yet, but I’m really glad I bought mine. It performs just as well or better than a steel griddle, but without the cleanup, rust and seasoning hassles..Last edited by Panhead John; July 25, 2022, 09:11 PM.

Not for me. I love my flat top but I still turn the the gas grill for many things. Could you get away with just a flat top though? Absolutely.

Agreed. I use my flat top more, but have no plans to get rid of the gas grill. There are days I want to cook something that needs a regular grill, but don't want to wait for charcoal. Or my kettle/kamado are too small. For example, a 10 pound bag of chicken wings. I can fit ALL of those on the Weber gas grill at once. I can only fit half of them on the kettle or kamado.
