    Hunsaker coal basket experience wanted

Any feedback on your own use of this. My first reaction was, why? But then I saw the idea of easier cleaning of ash, and now I went from “why’ to want! Lol

Since I am not familiar with those other then, the owners are absolute in their enjoyment of them. Does that mean it is an easy ash clean out.

Yes, much easer, just lift out coal container when cool and most of the ash comes with it. Now for a WSM I don't know. It looks like one size fits the 18" and 22" so that means less coal for cooks in 22" me thinks.

I’ve never seen that but can tell why you would be intrigued.

It’s like my WSM is putting links in front of me, trying to save itself from being sold. Lol no water pan, easier ash clean out.... put me in coach.

Oh Boy, something new to buy,
A new toy, a new learning experience.
cooking = time and temp therefore the higher the temp the less time to enjoy PBR!

I’m more in the camp of slow it down, enjoy more time with bourbon. I just like the idea of easier clean out. It’s kind of a pain to scoop the ash out of a wsm.

I hate to be "that guy" chiming in with no first-hand experience, but Harry Soo's review carries a lot of weight: https://www.slapyodaddybbq.com/2016/...et-for-wsm-22/

Agreed on the few things I’ve read about Harry Soo, all seem to say he is upper level. However, he did not say how the clean out goes. That would likely be my own reason to purchase.

Since you're asking for opinions. If you're looking for a place to waste unneeded cash, I think you found it!

So, if this works as they say, it would mean I could clean out my 22wsm easier, and would then, likely use it more. I can’t see how that would be waste, if it truly performs that way. I don’t spend money, just to spend.

I think the Hunsaker basket and vortex at $69 is a better deal than this offering.

I like the water pan elimination with Hunsaker option.

I agree that the cooking method is different and ash containment is not there on the ArborFab either. Does the”Vortex” actually occur in the Hunsaker??

Jared49 I will tell you once I receive the drum I ordered. Suppose to arrive 23 Dec. If it does not arrive then it will be awhile to test it out. Shoulder surgery sked on 28 Dec so I will be on the shelf for a bit.
I have a friend who uses it in his WSM 22 and he has had no complaints so far.

I just got the Arbor Fab charcoal basket and the minion starter for the 18" wsm. I like it a lot; it does contain most of the ash, and I like the minion starter - the main reason I got it. It is pretty sturdy and easy to remove/dump. The only drawback is some of the edges on the minion are sharp and you have to be careful with it.

Looks like I didn't look close enough. so my remarks were not correct. Harry soo knows way more about this device than Ido, and he likes it.

I won't bore you with the bloody details, save to say my AMD has struck once again. Please accept my apologies.

I have the Arbor Fabricating basket for my 18" WSM. I like it a lot - I like that it is stainless, and I like the capacity. I sit it on the WSM grate. No airflow problems, it catches a lot of the ash (not all, but most of it), and I really like the minion starter basket that I got with it. It lifts out easily and is easy to dump. The one drawback is that the edges on the minion starter are sharp and require some care; after the first time I used it I realized I need to have my gloves on when handling it.

Those darn unknown sharp edges will get you every time. One of the 3 grills I lug along in the motorhome is a Woodflame Delecto AKA "The Hand Shredder". Cleaning the cooking grates on that thing is a bloody mess literally.
