Hunsaker Meat Hangar For The Kettle

    - Have any of you folks purchased this item? Looks interesting. Thoughts?
    - I stumbled upon it while sniffing around Hunsaker Drum Smokers. Going to pull the trigger on the Drum. Wife green lighted it and need to order quickly before she comes to her senses.

I just checked it out. Pretty cool. I wonder if you can put the lid on the kettle when using it. I rarely cook that much meat at one time though. But if you do, it sure seems to allow for a lot of capacity.

Pretty clever on their part to expand sales opportunities, that's their normal rib hanger they supply with the drum purchase and offer as an accessory, including two sizes for WSM. I have the 18.5 that I have used in my Bronco for hanging whole chickens, but not quarters as they show in the kettle pics. For that, and similar sized other products, that's terrific space utilization. The 18.5 is 4.5 inches high, so the 22.5 is likely the same or at most .5 inch taller, and with the taper shouldn't conflict with the kettle lid.

That looks pretty cool, and I can see using it to hang a bunch of split chickens in my kettle.

I'll have to check it out. I have one for my 18" WSM and love it. Turns the thing into a PBC essentially.

Like I said above had to strike while the iron was hot concerning the drum smoker, extra rack, hangar and additional hooks. So I placed the order.
jfmorris I also ordered a kettle hangar to give it a whirl. If I like it I will keep it if not off to the BIL it goes.
*** Note if there is interest in the Hunsaker (Weber Specific) hangar for the Kettle or WSM which are interchangeable ensure You Do Not order the hangar to be utilized in the Hunsaker Drum it is not interchangeable and will not fit the Weber offerings***

I keep thinking about this accessory. I’m thinking the Vortex off to one side to focus the heat with the bird evenly spaced around and away from it. I need to get one and try that! MCS strikes again..

Looks pretty interesting! I noticed they changed up their site a little bit, they used to have the complete DIY kit for sale so that you could build your own unit.

Does not entice me. Some meat hanging too close to the SnS (like right over it), and not easy shift to a new location due to the design of the device. I see no reason to hang anyway, as it would all cook just fine directly on the grate, and be easier to move around. What I do see is a new toy for the adventurists to play with. YMMV

That's what I'm thinking. I went straight to the WSM 22" model and now I'm really tempted. I'm intrigued by how much chicken this setup could handle at one time.

So, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this for my WSM 22.5". It got here on Saturday in time to cook up half chickens for dinner. I love this thing! With the PBC, about the only thing I liked to use it for was chicken, and using this without the water pan gives you a very similar flavor profile. A bit less smoky than the PBC, due to more air flow. I should have ordered the meat hook to go with this. But it's not a show stopper to not have it, if you have a decent grilling glove.

Steve R. I like the wsm so much that I am on my second one. I abused my first one and eventually the body was so out of round it wouldn't fit the base, and the base was pretty beat up too. I like my kettle and the new pellet toy, but I always default to the wsm for brisket and butts. Or any really long cook. I need the hanger too so I can try hanging chicken.

Funny thing that they show 15 chicken quarters hanging in the kettle photo. But it only comes with 6 meat hooks! And I couldn’t find any listing to buy extra hooks. I’m sure you can but I didn’t see where on the site.

They have them listed under "vortex smoker accessories". I added 2 packs of six to my drum order besides the 6 that come standard.

I figured they were there somewhere. I tend to be internet challenged I’m afraid. 🤷‍♂️
