    Web Kettle top heavy

I have been smoking meat for nearly 10 years now. I have used a UDS for most of that time, and more recently have added a Yoder YS640. I have a 22" Weber Kettle that I rarely use because it is top heavy and tips over easily. Am I missing something? It seems a product this popular, made by a manufacturer this reputable, would not have this sort of major design flaw. What am I doing wrong?

Have you ever tipped it over?

I’ve never had an issue with my kettle tipping over, is it on an even surface?

I have a Performer, so that's not a problem for me. If I was worried about it though, I'd put a bag o' sand on the shelf between the wheels.

I have a covered patio in my back yard so, yes smooth even surface and I have tipped it over. I have to anchor it to something or the wind will tip it over.

Some places jus git bigger winds than others, an have less to slow it down / block it...
I live in jus such a place...

Wow, I have been cooking on kettles for years, and I have never had one tip over. Is it a newer one?

RonB - I doubt that little wire rack would support much weight.

klflowers - I have had it for about two years - I bought it new.

I definitely suspect user error rather than the grill itself.

I wonder if it's assembled correctly? I also think the the wire rack would support quite a bit of weight.

Something is not right. I’ve had & seen kettles withstand fierce winds. Due to the shape/design the wind would have to be tremendous to blow over. I’m not going to get into geodesic domes & spheres here, but something is afoul in the assembly. They are not top heavy. Maybe show us some pics so we can figger it out.

How about buoys? You into those too? That's what the original kettle was built out of.....a buoy.

Gesundheit - originally folks thought you were expelling a demon when you sneezed so the saying of gesundheit was an act of blessing. Just thought I'd share that little diddy...carry on.

I have a Weber Kettle that sits next to a Charbroil gas grill and twice the Charbroil got hit by heavy winds that knocked it over. Never the Weber.

I've had a 22" kettle for 15 or 20 years and have never seen it tip over or felt that it might tip over.

I've had very strong winds blow my 18" Weber Smokey Mountain over a couple of times. Fortunately it was not in use either time.

I did have very strong wind blow my kettle along my patio once. Many years ago I added the hinge so that I could just lift and lock my lid in the open position. I had it lifted open as I was getting ready to clean it a bit and then light a chimney full of KBB. I went back inside and was in my kitchen when a wind gust caught that big lid/sail and the whole kettle went rolling across my patio which I thought was kinda funny. Didn't tip over tho!

Something is off - the tripod the legs and wheels form is slightly larger than the diameter of the grill body, so it shouldn’t tip over, unless the legs and wheels are wrong somehow. With weight in it from charcoal and food cooking, it should be even more stable.
