Thinking of making a 26" Performer

After pulling my 26 out of the outdoor kitchen and into the yard to cook for a crowd the other weekend I'm toying with the idea of building a table for my 26 with big knobby tires that I can park under my deck when I'm not using it. It would make room for the EVO Grill I think I'll be getting this summer. Has anyone here done this? Any ideas or advice I should consider?

Put a motor on it. It will be much more fun to move it around. Might as well put a seat and a steerin' wheel. Maybe it should be a diesel engine - much better sound. Some headlights and backup light would be helpful for movin' it in the dark. And while you are at it, a racin' stripe would really spiff it up.

+1 on the racing stripe. It will NOT be complete without that!

And good call on the horn Mudkat

Like the idea, might poke around over at WKC, if anybody's already done so, that'd be a most likely place to hear bout it...

That XL model with the drop down table is stellar! I would make something like that for my Weber Ranch kettle, but the wife would probably make me get rid of another cooker because of the garage space it would eat up.

I cast my vote on the XL too, really slick.

I keep wanting to make one from wood. I keep thinking I will but I haven't yet. I don't have the skills to make those nice looking ones from metal. I still can't believe Weber doesn't offer one, years of missed opportunity.

No kidding. The 26 is a tremendous value given its capacity. A Performer version would be awesome.

I've been thinking about this myself as an owner of a Performer. Feeding a family of four and doing more and more on it (from all the time I spend here) I wish it was a little bit bigger.

I have a Performer and a 26. I use the Performer more often than the 26 but sometimes, even for just a dinner for 4, I need the extra space the 26 provides. Razor

A 26" inch performer sounds interesting. It would be a beast that's for sure!

Baby Back Maniac just started a new series called Pimp My Grill where he invites folks to show him their modified rigs. In this episode there's a guy that bought a table from Ikea and mounted his 26" into it. Not as fancy as the metal ones above but not too bad either.

That’s a great idea! I did that for my son’s but failed to adequately factor in the size of the wheels. It was really tall.

So did anyone actually do this? How would you mount the 26” kettle to the top? My son in law wants to do something like this in the house they are planning, as an outdoor kitchen.

My single piece of advice is: get as big wheels as you can (diameter wise). Every extra inch means it’s gonna move around easier. Don’t skimp.

Agreed. I want to store the whole thing under my deck. It will need off-road capabilities.

My Ranch kettle had some big wheels put on it by the previous owner. Can't imagine trying to move it around on the stock wheels, especially through the gravel in my backyard. If I were to build a table for my 26 I would definitely invest in some good wheels like Henrik said. With the weight of the 26 and the table you will need something sturdy to roll it around on.
