    Mini-rescue of 22" kettle

Found a guy selling a kettle with a cover (and a kind of shitty but useable bag of charcoal) for 50 bucks (Canadian!) so how could I turn on that...there are definitely kettles in worse shape than this one, so this wasn't so much a restoration as just an hour or two of elbow grease. A little Simple Green, and some CLR on the grill grate and it's ready to go for another couple of decades. The grate was a little crusty and while I think it came out fine, I might get a new one anyway just cause they're only 25-30 bucks and I the ones with the flippy ends are that much better, and just save this one as an emergency backup or something. Got a little extra gasket tape around the house so might slap that on there too.

I got a similar deal on one recently, came with two charcoal baskets, lighter cubes, chimney and cover. I got it for extra capacity to cook for a friend's birthday at his house. His "grill/smoker" was such trash that I felt compelled to give him the extra Kettle when I was done cooking. Friends don't let friends cook on crappy cookers.

Thanks all, it really wasn't too far gone compared to some of the ones you see...as you can see in the top pic, it's a little crusty but certainly nothing super serious. A few spots on the inside where the porcelain isn't perfect but still I feel like there's no reason I can't get 5 years out of this. Came out great and now it's just a matter of how many accessories and in what order!
