I’ve been chipping away at my attempt at an ‘Ultimate Weber GA Mod’ for a few months, almost done so thought I’d share some photos.
Here’s a bit of a summary in photo order :-
1) Fully set up with the TelTru thermometer seated in place.

2) Custom resined wood hardware plus the Weber grommet. Allows you to seat a thermometer in place as well as run cables for a wireless thermometer or smoker controller.

3) BBQ Guru Universal Adapter fitted so I can mount a smoker controller to the GA. Has an ember shield on the inside of the GA.

4) All the required accessories fit in there nicely and I’ve still got room to expand.

5) To make lighting easier, I keep a few wax/sawdust lighter cubes, a small butane torch, and some spare butane.

6) Burns nice and hot, gets the lighters going in no time even in a stiff breeze!

7) ... and then stores nicely in the underside of the chimney...

8 ) ... with one full load of charcoal stored in the main part of the chimney.

9) Lined the edge of the lid with thermal felt to reduce air and smoke leakage and improve control.

10) I keep a few drip pans, some heatproof gloves, and a TelTru thermometer...

11) ... which fits nicely in the round thermometer hole in the Weber grommet.

12/13) A Lavatools Javelin is handy for reading meat temps and rather handily attaches to the wall of the GA magnetically.

14/15/16) 3 ZifaGrills 3mm stainless grill plates store nicely in the GA and allow me to mix and match for open grilling, griddle cooking, or low and slow...

17) ... for which a JG Offset Plate is a must!

18) Despite all this it’s still easy enough to carry with one hand. Wouldn’t want to lug it 10 km but a walk from the car to the beach is no worries!

19) Last but not least, I want to eventually set it up to run a smoker controller such as a Smartfire or FireBoard, but being so close to the coals could cause issues. So I found a 90 degree mandrel-bent exhaust pipe which is the perfect diameter - now I just need to trim it to size so it stores in the GA when not in use - don’t need all this length! One trimmed and probably insulated with a little thermal felt, I’ll be able to plug in a controller fan at the end of the pipe, run the wires through the Weber gasket, and away we go!

It’s been a fun journey so far. Hope you enjoy the pics
