Anyone Built a BBQ Chimney or Weber Kettle Rain Cap?

Hello PIT! It's raining, so naturally I'm suffering from using my grills withdrawals. I've got a roof chimney on one grill with a flat spring-loaded swing-away damper, and everyone knows what the damper on kettles looks like. Both open the grills to the falling rain.

I was fairly sure I would find chimney extensions for grills with an inline damper and a rain cap. Nope! Really surprised on this one - thought the market would be there.

I'm also wondering just what kind of monster I'd have to make to be able to use the kettle in rain. Really, BBQ gazebos and such are out, because I get wind here in STL and heavy rain with a breeze gets under smaller gazebos. I want something on my cookers.

Although I may not be able to get outside TODAY, I'm looking for ideas that will get me out in the rain pretty quickly. Thanks in advance Folks!

In right hand: Adult bev, tongs, etc. as needed.
    In left hand: umbrella...

Not a perfect solution, but might git ya a cook in, today...

It's (still) rainin here, as well, like fer a week plus, mostly, so I can totally sympathise with yer dilemna, amigo!

You've got the priorities straight, Bones. Adult bev first :-)

I cook on my kettle all the time when it rains. No big deal. the small opening in the top vent doesn't let much rain in.

I guess it's the way it's setup. The vent is above the meat because the SnS is on the other side. Rains on the meat...

I had one built from stainless for my BWS but that's because the reverse flow design means water can pool at the bottom of the chimney, didn't want to have water pooling there and slowly causing rust issues.

Works a treat and didn't cost too much.

Before I built myself a pavilion out back, I had a 8 foot umbrella on a stand that I would setup next to the grill or smoker!

I used to pull the kettle just inside my garage with the big garage door left open This helped in the rain, wind and snow I ‘m from St Louis also. Alas I no longer have a garage, so I ‘ll be looking for new ideas also

Well half my cookers are somewhat under cover and the other half are in the weather. So I got tired of fighting the rain and went out and bought an expensive (like $200) pop up canopy for the other half. Well for about a week things were great, in fact the wife even commented that a permanent solution would be in order (YESSSS) !! Well one night here comes a gully washer, I mean cow pissing on a flat rock type of storm. I get up the next morning and the whole shebang is twisted metal and torn canopy canvas all down around my cookers. Should have taken a picture, it was a mess.

Soooo, to make a long story short, don't buy an expensive pop up canopy to protect your gear. A cheap umbrella works just fine

I used a 10x10 cheap pop up for grilling in inclement weather for several years, until the nylon dry rotted to the point it was letting the rain through. It was a good $100 solution, and inspired me to do a permanent one using metal roofing.

I kind of ot tired of trying to do my BBQing in the Oregon rain, too. I solved the problem by moving to Arizona. Works great!

This is my rain cap. Roll whatever grill I am using under cover! With 12' x 21' covered, I've got plenty of room to scoot things around to make room for a grill or two.
