I power washed my kettle yesterday to remove mold. Today I smoked fish and I I noticed that I have a rust ring around the lid>>> does this mean I’ve knocked the enamel/coating off the lid?
not coincidentally I see small bits of what looks like paint (hopefully just grease) on my Fish
what’s the chances I got paint falling on my food? Thanks all
If it’s big chips, pick em off & eat the fish. If it’s little tiny stuff, I dunno. As far as yer lid goes, it almost sounds like ya might have over done it with the power wash, hard to tell from here. The rust thing I would attack as if it were a CI skillet or a steel wok. I would scrub it down with the hard part of a sponge & salt. Immediately upon drying I would liberally use some oil on it, any will do, just not motor oil. Then I would promptly do a cook, a good hot one. Then oil it again. You should be good to go. Let the gook from ensuing cooks serve as protection. 🕶 My 2 cents.
What color are the flakes? If it’s black I would tend to think the flecks are more likely carbon deposits than paint. Tends to got loosened up with the power washer. I always hit my kettle pretty hard with a scrub brush and dish soap or degreaser after power washing. Then season with canola or peanut oil. Pics would help.
