What do I need with a Weber Summit Charcoal?

    Hi all,

So I've spent a week being distracted at work while I decide on a new grill. I thought it'd be a ceramic and either Primo or KJ, but I'm about to push the button on a Weber Summit CGC. And I can't wait It was a CLOSE decision.

What do you think are the must-have accessories? And if there are Weber versions, is there a better one from anyone else? For example, I know I need a pizza stone, but is the Weber one the right one to buy? Here's what I'm looking at:
    • Pizza stone
    • Cover
    • Something to incinerate chickens on
    • Do I need the SNS charcoal basket & drip/griddle?
    • Grill grates?

I have temp monitoring already, and I'll be using the WSC as my only outdoor cooker. I cook a mix of direct and indirect (my kids REALLY love low slow meat) and consider myself a decent indoor cook but a bit of a beginner with outdoor techniques. Just so you know.

    Thanks folks

My son has exams right now but I think I'm doing more homework than him this past week...

I would say yes to the cover and a SnS kit.

Congradulations on that. A slow and sear IMHO is an absolute must. Thermapen or quality instaread, I'm partial to thermoworks.

      Options:

      1. Drip n griddle (notice its the first option)
      2. Grill grate if you don't want to use cast iron or other things. I think dave/grill grate sells a small searing piece for one end on this.

Realy though it's abouts preference, sticker shock and convenience.

You have a solid machine, the SnS seriously ups your game at a much faster pace.

user32034 I will leave that to the pros here. Your cooker is above my rank. I have a 22 and 26 kettle. I don't window shop And I generally only watch music videos. No worries, actual help will be along soon.

I have a WSCG, and honestly have found little need for the SNS, largely because I would never use it to smoke anything on the WSCG. The WSCG deflection plate and lower charcoal grate setting means you can smoke and maintain the full 24” diameter surface area, can’t do that with the SNS.

fzxdoc should chime in here soon. She lives across the pond as well, has a WSCGC, and can direct you to accessories readily available in the UK. It will be my next, and possibly last, grill as well so I'll be watching the responses. A quality digital thermometer is a must. I have the Thermoworks Smoke and really like it, but will acquire the Fireboard to accompany the WSCGC.

Thanks! I've a TP4 already and will be getting either a Fireboard (they put me in touch with their soon-to-open euro dealer) or something similar.

Once you get the SNS (make sure you get the right size for a perfect fit)

then lots and and lots of meat. You’re going to need it. :-)

Hah, I should have put that first A few years ago we went halfs on a hind with another couple - wish I'd been able to cook on the WSC then!

Reckon at least one "Imperial Buttload" of charcoal'd be a favourite, in th mean time!

so far I've not obtained, nor felt I needed any additional stuff for my WSCG than what came with it....maybe the charcoal rake.

Im thinking about the SNS b/c I like the one have with my 22" ....but for now that money is going elsewhere.

I had no idea fzxdoc lived overseas. I always thought she lived in some remote Virginia/Kentucky wilderness mountain village. Or Texas.

I need to adjust my accent I use for her writing.

Hmm, I could be mistaken. It would truly be the first time.

Pretty sure fzxdoc does not live overseas, since she has made mention several times of buying her ribs at Sam’s Club. But I think she will have the best suggestions in accessories for the WSCGC.

I haven't kept up, but if ABC BBQ has a DnG for the 26" Webers, that would be great if you use a temp controller with a fan. The DnG does a good job of directing the air through the SnS. But Foil can do the same thing although it is a bit more effort. If you don't use a fan to control temps, the DnG is not as important, although still nice.

I have the DnG and it seems a little short. ,adbe it's because I use the original SnS and the DnG in my 26. Can't complain though my kettles are machines.

Go ahead and bust my bubble, I totally read her comments with a cockney flower girl accent a la Eliza Doolittle.

The most important thing you need is MEAT.

BTW, fzxdoc lives in North Carolina

Thanks for the correction. I wonder where I got the idea that she lived in the UK.

Make sure you get the Slow N Sear Low Profile for your WSCGC, it's made specifically for that cooker.

Also, given the way the cooker is built with the insulated walls, I'm not sure how you would add a fan or really if a fan would be of any great benefit. It's such an efficient cooker to begin with. Regardless, that's (in my opinion) the best barbecue cooker on the market, congratulations !!
