    Weber Jumbo Joe

What are thoughts on a Weber Jumbo Joe 18"? Are they strictly charcoal grills or can you smoke on them as well? It's a nicer old one, not one of the new ones.

The problem with the 18” Weber is that there is so little room for a 2 zone setup. I think you could do a snake or bank the coals on one side, but the smoking space will be very limited. They don’t make a slow n sear for that size grill either. Looks like charcoal baskets from Weber may be available though.

Yes you can smoke with them but as jfmorris mention above you will be limited on space.

It really depends on how many people you are cooking for. If it is more than 4 I would say no to smoking anything more than say chicken. 2 to 3 hours max. I have one that I used for camping. Ended up buying a 22 Master Touch. So many more options. 22 are easy to find used on the cheap.

Smoke: Yes. SnS for a 2-Zone setup: Yes (It's the SnS Charcoal Basket). I have an 18" Jumbo Joe and also 22" & 26" kettles. For smaller cooks it is great. I use the loaf pan for a water pan.

Always amazes what can be done, and done quite well from the looks of it. Very nice!

I don't use mine for smoking but I cook on it all of the time. Last night I cooked a pork loin and a small tin of 2 cubed russet potatoes (See: show us what you are cooking) on it. It's a really nice little grill that is both portable and has enough capacity to cook for 4 or more if you get creative....

I own a Jumbo Joe and have successfully smoked on it when I've taken on shore vacations. I use a Weber Charcoal basket and have a Craycort grate so adding coals is easy. It's worked great on ribs, pork butt and poppers.

You can do a lot with it. You don’t need the controller to smoke in a Jumbo. It’s just there for the fun of it. The SnS charcoal basket, like FD mentioned is da bomb!

You have a rotisserie for the Jumbo? Nice!

Thanks guys for the input.......it looks like a very versatile charcoal cooker. Obviously there are better routes to smoking but just needs creative thinking.
