What are thoughts on a Weber Jumbo Joe 18"? Are they strictly charcoal grills or can you smoke on them as well? It's a nicer old one, not one of the new ones.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
The problem with the 18†Weber is that there is so little room for a 2 zone setup. I think you could do a snake or bank the coals on one side, but the smoking space will be very limited. They don’t make a slow n sear for that size grill either. Looks like charcoal baskets from Weber may be available though.

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

Cookers:
Large Big Green Egg with a Ceramic Grill Store rack system, and the SnS setup.
Weber Genesis SA-E-330 LP INDIGO with SS Grates, Weber Crafted frame kit, baking stone, griddle (2/3), all from Ace Hardware.
For the first time in a long time I have no kettles as I gave them all away.
Everything Else:
SnS #3 with certificate. I was their first customer.
Sous Vide equipment.
SnS and Thermoworks instant read and leave-in thermometers.
Grill Grates for BGE.
Kingsford Blue Bag, Weber lighter cubes, Weber charcoal chimneys.
Rubs with salt: Meat Church Holy Cow.
Rubs without salt: Home-mixed versions of previously sold SnS Grills Rocky's Rub and Not Just for Beef using their recipe. SPOG.
Spices: Lots of 'em.
Smoke: Yes. SnS for a 2-Zone setup: Yes (It's the SnS Charcoal Basket). I have an 18" Jumbo Joe and also 22" & 26" kettles. For smaller cooks it is great. I use the loaf pan for a water pan.

I don't use mine for smoking but I cook on it all of the time. Last night I cooked a pork loin and a small tin of 2 cubed russet potatoes (See: show us what you are cooking) on it. It's a really nice little grill that is both portable and has enough capacity to cook for 4 or more if you get creative....

You can do a lot with it. You don’t need the controller to smoke in a Jumbo. It’s just there for the fun of it. The SnS charcoal basket, like FD mentioned is da bomb!Last edited by Jon Solberg; February 10, 2018, 07:48 PM.
