If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
The lid holder is a great feature. All you need to do is flatten the washers back out in your vice (you do have one? ) or replace the washers and don't over tighten this time. Weber will likely send you the washers for free, or you can buy them online for a couple of bucks.

After everyone's suggestions and a week or so to think about it, I changed my mind and put the lid hanger back on. I stacked the small washers on top of bigger ones to cover up any of the tiny chips I caused by over-tightening. Problem solved.
